Since 1987, California Dreaming has been a proud part of the Charleston, SC community. Our spacious, open setting features floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the Ashley River, creating the perfect backdrop for a lively night out. You can also enjoy these panoramic views from our wrap-around deck, complete with a bar and easily accessible by boat. Whether you're craving low country favorites or our famous prime rib, California Dreaming is a favorite among both locals and tourists.

**Please note that we provide Advance Priority Seating to reduce wait times and expedite the seating process when your entire party arrives. To ensure the best experience for all guests, we seat groups of up to 6. While larger groups are seated separately, this arrangement is flexible during quieter hours.

Great food & service, however we had reserved a special table for in a specific location for an occasion and didn’t get it/was just put in a booth in the bar.

We arrived and were seated rather quickly because we made reservations earlier that day. The 10oz. marinated sirloin was awesome. And, of course, nothing completes the California Dreaming experience better than an accompanied house salad with extra house dressing on the side.

We came in wednesday evening for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. He ordered the marinated sirloin medium rare as well as his sister and dad. when they brought the steak out, his dad and sisters were real nice cuts of steak where as his was extremely thin and black. When he asked our server about it, the server said the chef butterflied his steak. As a server myself, i asked the server “Doesn’t butterflying it make it more well?” He then proceeded to ask my boyfriend to cut into his steak which he did so and it was so so well done it was super dry and flaky. We asked them to remake it and when they brought the new one iut, it was so rare the cow may as well been mooing on the plate. They offered to remake it AGAIN. This time it was finally made correctly after the other 4 of us had already finished our dinners. At the end, we still had to pay for the meal which was absurd to me because as someone in the service industry, it is usually a courtesy and etiquette to comp the meal. I then ordered a dessert for my boyfriend and told the server it was his birthday privately. He said “ok”, and that was it. There was no sort of celebration either. They also dimmed the lights so dark halfway through the meal at 7pm, we had to use a flashlight just to see how our steaks were cooked. It was SUPER dark in there. overall i enjoyed this place and the view is 10/10… but service is definitely lacking and so is management when it comes to mistakes not once but twice with the kitchen.

WAITRESS WAS GREAT, BUT IT WAS A NIGHTMARE GETTING A TABLE THAT WAS CLEARLY AVAILABLE - FOR SOME REASON THEY MADE EVERY EFFORT TO SIT US IN THE BAR, THEN TOOK US TO A TABLE COMPLETELY BLOCKED FROM A WATER VIEW, WHEN ONE COULD SEE THAT MANY TABLES WERE OPEN WITH GREAT A WATER VIEW. THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS WHEN A WAITRESS CAME TO OUR RESCUE AS WE WERE WALKING OUT, AND OVERRULED THE HOSTESS AND SAT US PROPERLY AND TOOK GREAT CARE OF US. STILL HARD TO BELIEVE THAT MANAGEMENT WOULD LET US WALK OUT WHEN THE FACILITY WAS ONLY A QUARTER FLLED WITH GUUSTS. AND OH YES, WHEN WE ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A MANAGER THE HOSTESS TOLD US THEY WERE TOO BUSY TO SPEAK WITH US, WHEN AS I ALREADY MENTIONED THE FACILITY WAS VERY QUIET. AGAIN, THE WAITRESS WAS WONDERFULL!!!

California Dreaming has become just an average restaurant. There are new items on the menu since I’ve last visited, but in my opinion, the quality of food has diminished.
