Bringing a taste of the Old World to downtown Wilkes-Barre, Cafe Toscana is located at One Public Square in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

Our recipes are tried and true family favorites that represent the best that Tuscany and the surrounding region has to offer.

Cafe Toscana’s Northern Italian cuisine is light and delicate and allows the individual flavors to come through. We feature an array of tried and true family favorites, including veal, pasta, risotto, fish, steak and seafood, with a variety of specials to keep the menu always fresh and exciting. There are also an abundant asortment of homemade desserts on the menu.

A new and greatly expanded wine list gives customers plenty of choices for every dish and every palette.

Server lacked knowledge of Italian food - Campari and soda -- 'what soda do you want in that, Coke, Sprite?', as an example. Another server took over mostly, and the busser was great. 'Veal ragu' in one special was so-so. Same with shrimp and scallop appetizer special. Chicken Francesca was extremely yellow, as if tumeric had been added, but the person eating it, while agreeing the color was different than usual, said it tasted ok. Find charge for credit card use offensive, when paying in cash is more costly to the restaurant (for those who have not thought about it - cash can be counterfeited, has to be counted at least 2 times, has to be taken to the bank, and so on -- all of which require paid employees).

My wife and I split the Caprese salad as an appetizer. The mozzarella was rockhard and the tomatoes looked terrible. She liked her gnocchi with shrimp special very much but my flounder was drowned in tomato sauce. The service was excellent.

We arrived on time & were seated. The restaurant became extremely busy & noisy. The layout for tables was not conducive to a relaxed dining experience. Tables were arranged in a way in which people were back to back. The person at the table next to ours had to push his chair into my back to get out. Food was so-so. We ordered dessert & waited about 20 mins for a piece of carrot cake. No one stopped by our table to see how our meal was going. After another delay we finally got our check. Had to use their rest room on the way out, & it was very difficult to wend my way between waiters with trays & diners at other tables. We’ve dined there in the past & seating arrangements were much more comfortable. It was hard to hear each other with conversations other diners were having at full volume in front, in back & to the side of us. Perhaps more thought should be given to comfort level during dining.
