Gino Francese opened his first restaurant in 1971 in Melbourne, Australia. The restaurant was an instant success because of its authentic Italian Pizza, Pasta, Seafood, Steak and friendly service. Cafe Cavallino is owned by Gino Francese. Cafe Cavallino will continue serving the same traditional Italian style cuisine that has been done so by the Francese family for the past 43 years. Cafe Cavallino provides one of the largest alfresco seating areas in Melbourne, to give you the true dining experience and atmosphere of Lygon Street. The Cafe Cavallino mission is to continue serving you with the freshest food within the cleanest environment. Gino Francese has built an excellent reputation for his traditional Italian homestyle cuisine and friendly atmosphere that stands strong today.

Staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The food was delicious, and was a generous sized portion. All else aside, if you are an F1 Ferarri fan, the ambience and decor of this place is amazing. Totally worth eating here just to look at the wall to wall (to ceiling!) Formula 1 decorations.

We hosted a party for 17 ppl. The staff were friendly, attentive and could not be faulted. The owner was lovely and spoke to all the guests, even showing us photos of his family and the Ferrari Team. The food was delicious, absolutely mouth watering. We absolutely recommend this icon of Lygon Street.

Food is outstanding… schnitzels are the best I’ve ever had.. and lasagna is the real deal.. beautiful food. We travel 50klm to eat at Cafe Cavallino. Well worth the trip.

The pasta was really awesome, we ordered the Marinara with cream sauce, the seafood was relatively fresh and pasta and sauce was delicious. Service was good. The pizzas were extremely average, ordered the Aussie and Freco (gourmet) and they were both quite disappointing - perhaps one step above Pizza Hut or something similar. Its not real Italian style pizza, westernized pizza with thicker crust and less-fresh ingredients. Ambience is awesome, love all the motorsport decor, its wonderful.

The food was decent although the prices are a bit over. The venue upstairs was big enough to accommodate a gathering of up to 30 people.

Awesome place! One of my favourite restaurants and my parents from Adelaide also. It was mums Birthday. They made it extra special 6 staff came out to sing to mum with the cake. It is definitely one of the best in Melbourne. I love going there!

We have been here many times over the years and Cavallino never disappoints. The staff are always welcoming and friendly, food is always fresh and delicious, and the menu is large enough to accommodate any palate. We have a mix of both fussy and diverse eaters in our family so it’s great that everyone is catered for here. My son recently had his 21st birthday dinner at Cavallino and it was a perfect start to our night out… still the most obvious choice whenever we visit Melbourne.

I love coming to Cafe Cavallino! The staff are always so welcoming, helpful and friendly. It feels like you’re eating in a family dining room with the love it oozes. We took my friend here for her birthday and the staff all came out to sing happy birthday along with the patrons around us. It’s loud. The food is delicious. The food is SO reasonably priced and we just LOVE coming here! Wine is excellent too!
