Welcome to Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse, where Japanese Soul Food meets American BBQ by James Beard Nominated Michael Lewis. “Japanese Smokehouse” is defined as merging Japanese ingredients and flavors with American BBQ techniques, and everything in between.

Menu highlights include light and refreshing dishes such as Wagyu Tataki with house kimchee, yuzu kosho and savory soy or Tuna Takaki with fire roasted peppers + ponzu, to bolder flavors such as Smoked Pastrami Short Rib with toasted rye, fire roasted kimchi + yuzu pickles We are open 7 days a week, for Dinner and Sunday Brunch!

Please note, our dining room consists of booths, regular tables and high-tops. We will try our best to accommodate you at your prefer location, but sometimes it is not possible due to party size. Our outdoor tables can be requested but not guaranteed when booking on open table.

The food was incredible. The brisket was the best I’ve had outside of Katz’s deli. I can’t recommend Ukiah high enough.

Our first time at the restaurant and we will be coming back. Food was very good, service was good as well. We enjoyed our meal!

We had the best time. It was a little loud but also the group I went with the vibes were off so it could have been us. But the food. Oh my God! So good. Lean into the tiny plate game! I came to play so I ordered 6 tiny plates and then my friends got a couple things but they had regrets ordering ramen it was delicious but they had to take it home. So much food. (Party of 5) it was a really great night and our server was so fun and accommodating. Really the whole staff because just anyone will run stuff out and each person was a delight

We are regular diners and have never had a bad meal. We introduced friends who had not previously eaten at Ukiah. Everything was perfect and our friends are now new fans.

Outstanding food but service was lacking. We would have ordered more tapas and drinks but after the initial few dishes we were left without any service for at least 30 minutes. We also never received new plates even after ordering items such as ribs. We eventually had to flag down our waitress just to get the bill. For a restaurant with such incredible food the poor service was very surprising and disappointing.

We enjoy brunch over Labor Day Weekend. The food and service were both exceptional. From the Beech Mushroom appetizer to the Breakfast Ramen, each course was a delight. Great cocktails too.

The brunch was amazing! We started with Shishitos & Beech mushroom tempura and both so good it would be hard not to order those every single visit. Then shared the pastrami eggs Benedict that was the best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had. We also shared the potato kimchi skewers that were so delicious and crispy. The mimosas were a perfect light on the OJ to wash it all down. Every single thing from all the food, service & ambience was top drawer! I wish we lived closer!

We had a great time! We chose an assortment of 9 small plates for the 3 of us and they brought out 2 at a time for us to share. We all got to taste everything!
