Welcome to Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse, where Japanese Soul Food meets American BBQ by James Beard Nominated Michael Lewis. “Japanese Smokehouse” is defined as merging Japanese ingredients and flavors with American BBQ techniques, and everything in between.

Menu highlights include light and refreshing dishes such as Wagyu Tataki with house kimchee, yuzu kosho and savory soy or Tuna Takaki with fire roasted peppers + ponzu, to bolder flavors such as Smoked Pastrami Short Rib with toasted rye, fire roasted kimchi + yuzu pickles We are open 7 days a week, for Dinner and Sunday Brunch!

Please note, our dining room consists of booths, regular tables and high-tops. We will try our best to accommodate you at your prefer location, but sometimes it is not possible due to party size. Our outdoor tables can be requested but not guaranteed when booking on open table.

We enjoy brunch over Labor Day Weekend. The food and service were both exceptional. From the Beech Mushroom appetizer to the Breakfast Ramen, each course was a delight. Great cocktails too.

The brunch was amazing! We started with Shishitos & Beech mushroom tempura and both so good it would be hard not to order those every single visit. Then shared the pastrami eggs Benedict that was the best eggs Benedict I’ve ever had. We also shared the potato kimchi skewers that were so delicious and crispy. The mimosas were a perfect light on the OJ to wash it all down. Every single thing from all the food, service & ambience was top drawer! I wish we lived closer!

We had a great time! We chose an assortment of 9 small plates for the 3 of us and they brought out 2 at a time for us to share. We all got to taste everything!

Pleasantly surprised by the whole experience! We had such a lovely time. Our server, David, was very attentive, kind & had great recommendations. We ordered a lot and the food came out at a good pace. Everything was well balanced & well executed. The unagi was absolutely perfect, the cauliflower was treated exceptionally well, & the yuzu pickles could be sold by the bucket. Looking forward to going back!

Six people celebrated the 95th birthday of a friend. Not only was the food, the presentation, the service, and ambiance outstanding, they even presented us with a scrumptious birthday cake. We will definitely return. Outstanding restaurant

Great experience from the time we walked in the front door. Service was top notch and each dish was better than the next. Highly recommend.

If you want the most incredible food expierence ever , Ukiah is the place. The chef and staff put so much effort into the meals and dining experience and the wait staff is as knowledgable as the chef in explaining g the individual meals. Superb!!

This was our second visit and it was just as exceptional as the first. We even had our same server (Alex) who was pleasant, knowledgeable. Our favorites are the brisket and sweet potato but honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. We now make it a point to get dinner here when we’re in town. It’s a pricey dinner but it’s one of the best you’ll ever have.

My husband and I had an amazing meal at Ukiah! We loved absolutely every plate that was put on the table - the fried beech mushroom was to die for! Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. The cocktails were soooo tasty. We will definitely be coming back here again in the future!

Left hungry! That’s a lot to spend and then have to go get more food elsewhere. Food is good, the chef obviously knows what they are doing but the portions are too small and too expensive. Also, how were we supposed to share a half a chicken with no way to break it apart. What a shame.
