Butchers cut is a contemporary grill and premiere steakhouse that offers an unmatched selection of beef, fish, and pasta. As the premier steakhouse of San Diego located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, we offer an ambiance with a rustic and vintage vibe that takes you back to a simple and classic era.     We made a reservation for 2 for 7:00pm Sunday night. We show up at 7 and they tell us they don't have any tables inside for us (which is what I selected when I made the reservation). They offer for us to sit outside on the street or at the bar. Really??? We chose the bar as it was a chilly night and the tables were literally on the street. The bartender was good and friendly. However, my husband ordered a filet and it was cold. That really shouldn't happen at a steakhouse. We were disappointed.

    In my opinion it was over priced for the quality and taste of the food. We arrived for an early dinner around 4:30 and it was completely empty inside. The music playing wasn’t great but the music in the kitchen was blaring on and off and there was a lot of shouting which took away from the experience. Even though I wasn’t a fan of the food (under seasoned), the service was great. Very attentive wait staff.

    We went for Thanksgiving and had their prefix meal. My family and I chose this restaurant because they had the most options as far as starters, main, and desert. Every other restaurant that day in the gaslamp quarter was only offering two per course. The price was also much lower. The food did not align with the price difference, it was excellent. We were seated right at our reservation time. The meals were hot. They did run out of pumpkin pie-but that was okay because we were able to choose any dessert from their entire menu and they had so many delicious options. I had the molten lava chocolate cake. My husband and daughter had the NY cheesecake. They allowed us to make substitutions for the items we didn’t like on the prefix (we swapped the sweet potato mash for whipped garlic mashed potatoes) and that was amazing! We definitely recommend The Butcher’s Cut.

    The food was disappointing overall. The steak was overcooked, and I had to send it back, which I found quite uncomfortable. The mashed potatoes were cold and lacked flavor, while the hazelnut mousse was overly dense and heavy. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t worth it, and I don’t plan on returning.

    We decided to have Thanksgiving there and it was overall a good experience. A couple comments are; one, to make sure staff is aware of the special dinner plans. I called a couple of times and they said you can order off the menu or choose the Thanksgiving meal but when we got there you could do that but it was all or nothing. Everyone had to order the Thanksgiving meal or order off the menu. The server was kind enough to accommodate us and we were able to do both. Also, it would be nice if the restaurant offered a complementary water option. To pay for water at $3 a bottle is a little annoying. Overall it was a good experience. Thank you!

    A lovely meal - portions big enough to split. We had the 22 ounce dry aged T-bone on the hot lava stone. Perfect! Reasonably priced for the Gaslamp.
