Argentina-raised John Rattagan was the family grill master from an early age, in a country where the asado (barbecue) enjoys near sacred status. Luckily for London, he left his homeland as a young man and set up Buen Ayre in the heart of trendy Hackney. The headline act is the steaks, served in a range of cuts with a simple garnish. Expect warm service, fine Argentine wines and the best steak you’ll taste in the capital.

In my experience, Buen Ayre is the best steak restaurant anywhere, and most definitely my favourite restaurant in London. John and his wonderful team can always be relied upon for great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. Thank you once again for a tremendous evening, I am already looking forward to the next time :).

Took my daughters and girlfriend & it’s just such a relaxed enjoyable place to be. Both servers a joy.. funny, good and helpful. Steak was exceptional, sweetbreads delicious, morcilla a joy, provolone just as it should be and the reasonably price Malbec delicious…. Desserts a good end & a final Fernet Bramca brought things to a close. Thanks Buen Ayre..

Consistently delicious steaks. We hadn’t been there for three years, but the experience was just as good as the last time in terms of very good steak, good service and a relaxing ambience
