Argentina-raised John Rattagan was the family grill master from an early age, in a country where the asado (barbecue) enjoys near sacred status. Luckily for London, he left his homeland as a young man and set up Buen Ayre in the heart of trendy Hackney. The headline act is the steaks, served in a range of cuts with a simple garnish. Expect warm service, fine Argentine wines and the best steak you’ll taste in the capital.

    Without a doubt the most delicious steak we’ve had in a restaurant for some time. Friendly service. Good value. Altogether a great dining out experience. Highly recommended.

    Beautiful charcoal bbq flavour, friendly and fun staff who were really patient with us taking us through the menu, generous portions and hugely good value for what you get We had padron peppers, burrata with tomatoes, sweetbreads then sharing platter with ribeye and fillet, cheese, Argentinian sausages with chips and sauces! Wow. We will be back!

    Had a celebration meal with the family we ordered Ribeye, Sirloin and Filet - all were fantastic. The staff were warm and friendly and even the Chef made sure the food was OK - The Meal was Wonderful - will definitely come again
