Good food but terribly overpriced. $20 for steamed green beans. $37 for a small size of pasta. That was a hard pill to swallow.

Prices are outrageous. $20 for a side of broccoli? $17 for a side of garlic bread? $56 for a Barilla box sized portion of rigatoni? Insanity.

A little pricey for three - since everything is served family style you need at least 6 to get a nice taste of everything. Service wasn’t great but they had lots of big groups so maybe that was why. Food was good - overall a funky place to experience at least once or twice per f you’re looking for a restaurant a little out of the norm.

Food is very bland - little to no seasoning. Disappointed with dinner and dessert, but the colossal sundae is a nice presentation. And service was good.

We were a party of two for dinner at Buca di Beppo, Pasadena, California, on a Friday evening in June 2024. We made our reservation through the OpenTable App 24 hours in advance. We appeared at the Hostess’ Stand in the restaurant at the time of our reservation. For our prompt appearance, we were rewarded by being seated in a comfortable, roomy booth. Our table was already set with dining utensils and a stack of plates for sharing, upon our arrival. Our server, Victoria, appeared table-side within 5 minutes of our seating. After bringing our drinks, she allowed us to peruse the menu without being rushed. Bypassing the antipasto course, we chose to share one “small” entree, chicken limone (similar to chicken piccata), and one side dish, Brussel sprouts with prosciutto. When finished, both dishes came directly to our table from the kitchen. The entree dish was well prepared and tasty. The Brussel sprouts were large and had been halved to ensure thorough cooking. They had a crunchy, smoky taste after being doused with olive oil and seasonings before undergoing a quick pass through the broiler oven. The topping of shredded, cooked prosciutto was generous. Our server reminded us that dining portions at Buca di Beppo are intended for sharing, family-style. Our “small” entree of chicken limone included three breaded filets topped with sliced lemon wheels and capers in a delightful piccata sauce. The same “small” portion would have been excessive for most single diners. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and unpretentious, as you would expect of a stateside eatery favored by your imagined native Italian grandparents. The decor was pleasantly nostalgic with vinyl-coated, red-checked tablecloths and framed photographic prints showing Italianesque personae and experiences (think Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio, Sophia Loren, and backstreet Rome in the ‘50s). The noise level in the dining area was moderate, as several large families came and went from other rooms.

Appreciated that it was easy to accommodate my 83 yr old aunt who is wheel-chair bound. Have not been to Buca in ages and was happy to dine there last night - food still great and reasonably priced given the family sized portions.
