Food was very good but it took the waiter quite a while before she acknowledged our table. After that, all was good. Honestly, I think I would rather go to other better options on the island. My experience did not live up to my expectations that I had of the restaurant. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Another amazing experience at Brown's....this time to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. Browns di dnot let us down with one spectacular experience after another.... starting with new greek octopus and kekela salaad appetizers, new feature Ahi tataki and lamb chops, couped with our favorite wines. Our server Summer made the experience extra special being her friendly jovial self, taking the time to chat with us (always appreciated), and taking excellent care of us throughout our evening We also appreciated the background ambience created by the local Hawaiian entertainer.

While the food was pretty good, my fish entree was lukewarm and overall our meal was not worth the high price tag. My mai tai mostly tasted like pineapple juice and I couldn’t figure out how it cost $24. There wasn’t anything special in it or in the presentation. My mud pie dessert was completely freezer burned, and while our waitress was very accommodating and replaced it when I let her know, it certainly wasn’t worth $18 for what is essentially a scoop of ice cream on top of an Oreo crust. Nothing that we had was very memorable or unique. I came away from the experience feeling like I’d wasted $300. We’d had a similarly priced dinner at CanoeHouse the night prior and had a much better experience overall.

Based on reviews here and on other platforms, we had high expectations for Brown’s. We were disappointed. Brown’s, despite its venerable reputation, gave off depressing dying-restaurant vibes and even more depressing food for the price. To start, we had a reservation at 6:30 on a Thursday night. When approaching the host stand, we stood there for at least thirty seconds while the host typed on her iPad and ignored us…I’d write it up as a one off, but we sat near the stand waiting to be seated for about twenty minutes and watched it happen to everyone else who came up to check in as well. Once we were seated, it took about ten minutes for our server to finally check in. It was windy and the live music setup, not being used yet, was live and creating thunder-like sounds from the mike/speakers with each gust of wind. On to the food. My husband had the ahi tataki and I had the daily catch which was mahi. My husband said his food was “okay,” but that’s faint praise from him. My mahi was flavorless and overdone, with some roasted potatoes (literally sliced fingerling potatoes) and asparagus as a half hearted side. The lilikoi reduction didn’t add any pizzazz or class, just tartness and despair. I felt like I could have treated those ingredients better myself as an above-average home cook. The only food I enjoyed was the complimentary sweet potato rolls with honey and sea salt butter. At over $60 a plate, the food was not worth it. The service was not worth it. The ambience was not worth it. Save yourself the disappointment and go to CanoeHouse or, if you’re looking for something more casual, Aloha Vibes in downtown Kona Village. Both have great food and a great experience for the price.

Honestly the worst meal we had in Hawaii and very costly . We had the FILET and the Macadamia Nut Mahi Mahi and brussel spouts to share. The FILET was ordered Medium Rare and from the time of ordering to the time it came to the table was less than 10 minutes. The outside was barely brown and the inside cold. The MAHI MAHI was pink on the inside and not encrusted at all. It had a macadamia nut sauce on the top. The brussels were crispy on the outside but raw on the inside. Ended up eating the outside of the spouts and leaving the raw veggie. The drinks were good and the server tried really hard. We did not send our meals back or complain. The restaurant is busy and really focused on getting you in and out so the next folks can sit down. Maybe try Tommy Bahamas a short drive away?

I looked at the menu before I made the reservation and I was a little hesitant because of the high prices. However, you pay for good quality, and I had the best quality ever. I would rather pay $45 for my dinner which tasted fabulous than eat at a cheaper restaurant where the food and service would be subpar. My entree was Miso Eggplant and my starter was the Wailea Tomato Salad. I’d go back there again and again just for the tomato salad. The service was impeccable and the ambiance was outstanding.

Our meal was extremely disappointing. First of the poke dish, which was served at our table was very tasteless. While the poke was fresh, the other ingredients added nothing to the flavor. And at a price of $42, this dish should have been outstanding. Our biggest disappointment was the fresh catch, which my wife and I both ordered. The fish is ono, which we both love. But it came at a steep price of $68 per serving. Our server suggested that we have the ono cooked to a temperature of medium, which we did. Both servings were overcooked and very dry. And the sauce that the fish was in left much to be desired. One would think that a restaurant such as Brown’s that charges such high prices would know how to cook fish and would create a sauce that dazzles the taste buds. Very, very disappointing for a meal that cost over $300.

This restaurant was a beautiful location, and because we were celebrating a memorable birthday, we were giving a nice table. The service was good, although we could not understand our server that well due to his accent. The food was good, nothing exceptional, but the price of everything was very expensive.
