UPDATE: The restaurant at Broadgauge will Re-Open in Fall of 2024. Thank you for your patience, we are excited to serve you again soon! The Talisman Coffee Shop and Bakery as well as our public and private events are operating normally, so please continue to come and visit us! Talisman hours are 7am - 3pm Wed -Sat, and 8am - 12 on Sundays. Thank you!

In 1872, the Broadgauge was built as central Illinois' original "mega store", containing under one roof; Hardware, Grocery, and Dry Goods stores.

Today, Broadgauge has been restored to its original architectural glory and redeveloped it into a Restaurant, Bar, Coffee Shop, and Event Center.

The restaurant is currently closed and will Re-Open in Fall of 2024. However, our private and public events are operating like normal and our coffee shop and bakery remains open! Come visit us for an event or a latte and pastry!

The Talisman Coffee Shop and Bakery is open Wednesday through Sunday.

We were celebrating our anniversary and were looking forward to a nice dinner out. We were not aware that they had lost their chef and were only serving starters. We had driven 25 miles and were hungry. The restaurant is beautiful but noisy. Our server was apologetic but the experience was disappointing nonetheless. The reservation site asked if we were celebrating an event. We said yes. It was not recognized. We probably won’t go back.

Very lovely place. We had heard nothing but good so we had high expectations. Unfortunately we were unaware of a recent change in chefs or management or something that we could only order from their small plate menu so we were disappointed. The small plate menu was adequate but nothing special. Service and ambiance was excellent.

We were surprised by the small plates menu when we first arrived. However, the surprise quickly turned to delight when our food arrived. We have been accustomed to the entrees on the menu from our previous visits. The new (temporary) menu provided several good options, including the vegetable egg rolls, and the ribeye ponyshoe. The beer cheese soup was (chef’s kiss) really delightful as well. Our drinks met the standard that was set from the very first time we encountered the restaurant 2 years ago. We brought first time guests with us, and they remarked that they would love to come back! We hope the new chef arrives soon and continues to deliver amazing food at Broadgauge. We’ll see you guys again during the holiday season!

We waited a long time to sit, get drinks and food. Despite a reservation. Luckily we were there to visit and listen to Jazz so they waiting worked out ok.

The service is great and they are so friendly; including the bartenders!! Food was their shortened menu but was very good. Can't wait till their new chef gets there and what exciting menu will be!!

I went for my birthday celebration and I had the prime rib which was outstanding. My wife had the halibut and it was cook perfectly. Waiter was very efficient and friendly.

We had an anniversary lunch here and it was great! Perfect little Sunday afternoon outing. Food and cocktails were delicious and we had fantastic service. We need to come back for the dinner menu sometime.

Hidden gem. Excellent decor and ambiance. High ceilings and a great rustic look. The food was very good. The hot chicken sandwich is one of the best I’ve had.

Broadgauge is always a predictably pleasant environment with a wonderful atmosphere. The owner is often present and takes special notice of making sure patrons are having a great experience. It is our favorite “go to” for birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions. This time we had guests who ordered the barbecue special, and they loved it so much they asked to complement the chefs. Our party of six, all had positive comments from the cocktails to the entrees to the dessert ( tiramisu)! There was a special event that night upstairs, music bingo which was super fun! Lots of prizes too!!
