The Brigantine is more than just home to some of San Diego’s finest seafood. It’s a place where locals and visitors alike come to share a lively atmosphere and authentic sense of community. The Morton family opened the first Brigantine on Shelter Island in 1969, with a vision that embraced the beach town lifestyle, a dedication to flavorful food, and a passion for friendly service.

Today, we’re known far and wide for our San Diego-style surf and turf. From our award-winning fish tacos and freshly shucked oysters, to classic filet mignon or our perpetually best-selling marinated grilled swordfish. The harbor views are stunning, and the coastal vibe is inviting, but the food falls flat. My pork chop was dry, overcooked, and flavorless, with bland sides and a watery marsala sauce. My counterpart’s steak was solid, but the tiny, overcooked lobster tail—served without butter—was a letdown, especially at $85 for just that. Service was great, but the food isn’t worth the price. I won’t be back.

I have been to this spot multiple times and had good food experience. My recent visit yesterday was NOT good. Not very hungry so wifey and I ordered appetizers. My chicken soup was luke warm at best. The nachos were also cold, but were tasteless with no salsa! It was not what I expected due to recent visits and the high prices. I may be back because of my past visits but I will focus on main dishes. Hopefully, I'll get a better all-around experience, both food and service wise.

Swordfish very dry. Macadamia nut Mahi Mahi very dry. The coating looked like it was just frozen coated fish that was baked. No Mac nuts in it at all. Not fresh! We sat outside and when we left there was a raised planter bed behind us. The planter bed had a large pest control box on its side sticking out of the planter bed. Rather gross and very unprofessional for a restaurant. These things need to be hidden better. Will not go back.

It was amazing! We requested an outdoor space on our reservation one day before and they accommodated no problem. We even got there 45 minutes early on a Saturday fully prepped to sit at the bar and they were able to take us early! Fabulous food and drinks.

The restaurant is in a great location and the food is quite good. I enjoy taking out of town guests there because you have a beautiful view in all directions. The issue with our last visit is that we were sat near a doorway to their outside patio. We had reserved an inside table so we dressed to sit INside. However, due to the proximity to the open door, two of us sitting nearest to the door were cold. We asked about closing the door but our server said it would likely just be opened again since it was how servers accessed the patio. If you dine here, and you go in the evening (it can be cool in the evenings) bring a light coat just to be safe.

We had a very attentive waiter . James was personable , knowledgeable about the menu and keep checking in on us . Lovely evening on the patio .

Four of us had dinner here on Saturday, prior to going to see Wicked at the Civic Theatre. We planned ahead for parking with the Valet and had great seats at the water's edge. The appetizers of coconut shrimp and fried calamari were outstanding and our four main courses were very tasty. Our female server was a veteran who was very attentive and got everything right. The cocktails were also delicious. It is amazing to us that the prices of the main courses remain very reasonable -- which keeps us coming back! Great choice for a celebration, date, or dinner with a lively atmosphere.

The food, service, and view were spectacular! We had the house salad, and the special of the day, blackened halibut with saffron sauce, asparagus wrapped in bacon, and parmesean risotto. It was my friend's birthday and they offered to bring her a complimentary mud pie or creme brulee. She chose the creme brulee and it was delicious! Our server, Jeanne, treated us like royalty and was very attentive. My friend commented that it was the best meal she had ever had! What a day! Thank you for making our day so special! Can't recommend the Brigantine at Portaide Pier enough!!!
