The Plough isn't your average countryside pub. Sitting on a quiet lane in a quintessentially English village, The Plough was set to be sold off the developers when 120 members of the community came together to invest, and save, their local. After its purchase and renovation, the Yates family took over the kitchen and opened the pub's small, but proud, restaurant, Bowleys.

Head Chef Alex Yates is still very early on in his career but though only in his early twenties, he has already spent two years in the kitchens at The Goring Hotel in London, as well as having gained experience with Rick Stein and even once cooking for the Queen.

Bowleys menus have a traditional feel and adhere to classic, English fare with a fine dining twist. There are several options to choose between including a tasting menu, set lunch, a la carte, brunch and Sunday lunch. The tasting menu is the jewel in Bowleys crown and consists of five courses, with an optional sixth.

This is the 2nd time we have dined at Bowleys, and it was even better than the first time, we have eaten in many Michelin Star restaurants in the UK, and just know that it won't be long before they are noted for 1. The food is fantastic, and the care and detail up there with the best! We only wish that there were more places like this near where we live in Surrey. But the 1 hour trip is worth every mile to eat here! Has to be the best Sunday lunch that we have ever had! the first time was fabulous, we booked our mother's wedding party here just over a year ago, and Grace and Alex could not have done more for us! To serve food to so many at the same time at top quality was quite outstanding!! We cannot wait to return!

Delicious lunch today with superb service. Couldn’t have asked for more. We had the eight course tasting menu and every course was a delight.

The location is lovely. The service was professional but really friendly. As for the food it was amazing. I had the rabbit and smoked lamb and both were cooked to perfection and the reduction/jus served with these courses were fabulous.

The food was excellent and beautifully presented. The restaurant was quite quiet but we did go Friday lunchtime. Hopefully they are busier at other times because they certainly deserve to succeed as the food is extremely good.

Friday lunchtime meal for 3 of us to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. The whole experience was special from the friendly, attentive (but not hovering) staff, the excellent service and the lovely surroundings to the exceptional quality meal which was beautifully presented. The choices on the menu were all appealing so it was a difficult decision to make! The flavours were gorgeous and portion size for us was good. Quality not quantity. We were replete but not uncomfortably stuffed full. We all loved all aspects of the visit and can’t wait to return when we can get a table. The restaurant is an unexpected jewel that we are glad that friends recommended to us.

Having been recommended we ate off the evening a la carte menu. Our meal was delicious and would highly recommend. The staff were very friendly and informative about the food and wine. We felt the price was fair for the quality of the food. Will definitely be going back .
