The Plough isn't your average countryside pub. Sitting on a quiet lane in a quintessentially English village, The Plough was set to be sold off the developers when 120 members of the community came together to invest, and save, their local. After its purchase and renovation, the Yates family took over the kitchen and opened the pub's small, but proud, restaurant, Bowleys.

Head Chef Alex Yates is still very early on in his career but though only in his early twenties, he has already spent two years in the kitchens at The Goring Hotel in London, as well as having gained experience with Rick Stein and even once cooking for the Queen.

Bowleys menus have a traditional feel and adhere to classic, English fare with a fine dining twist. There are several options to choose between including a tasting menu, set lunch, a la carte, brunch and Sunday lunch. The tasting menu is the jewel in Bowleys crown and consists of five courses, with an optional sixth.

We have eaten here before which was excellent and we returned with our friends to hopefully have a similar experience but it wasn’t. The meal had good favours but the very small portions especially the rack of lamb which was actually one very small chop. We had the wine flight which was not perfect and none of them memorable. It was a real shame as we were with friends and we were a little embarrassed with the cost of this meal against the dining experience.

Lovely birthday lunch, we all had the tasting menu which was beautifully presented and delicious. Two of us had a flight of wines. All enjoyed the ambience. The tasting menu is not cheap but worth it! Great English wines too!

Superb food. Skillfully cooked and beautifully presented. The menu was not extensive but I was tempted by every choice. My wife and I chose from the Sunday lunch menu and each course was excellent. We were also offered a delicious amuse bouche, fresh bread and spreads and complimentary chocolates which all together made the lunch good value although it wasn't inexpensive

Bowley's is truly an outstanding restaurant situated in a lovely country pub, run by a team who clearly love what they do. Locally sourced, fresh ingredients turned into mouth watering dishes which we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff's attention to detail is second to none and they catered for our Dietary requirements with ease and professionalism. I can't recommend Bowley's enough and we'll be back sooner than later.

Had a great meal at this restaurant. Food was of a high standard fine dining. Good choice of wines. Interesting menu with locally sourced fresh produce as much as possible. Knowledgeable helpful friendly staff. Lovely romantic setting. Would highly recommend. xx

Had a lovely dinner last night celebrating my wife’s birthday with a birthday card on the table as a nice touch. Food , service and presentation was exquisite. We shall be back .

We didnt know what we had drawn out of the lucky back when we chose Bowleys for lunch. We all (4) rated this up among our top meals. The cooking was excellent with amazing new tastes to enjoy. Our set lunch with the generous add-ons was rather liking a tasting menu. We enjoyed every moment, every mouthful and the faultless service. Have already recommended it to a friend.

We go to The Plough regularly & love it. The food is fantastic & the service is excellent. The menu also changes regularly because it’s a very seasonal, locally sourced menu. They do a great Sunday roast as well.
