The Plough isn't your average countryside pub. Sitting on a quiet lane in a quintessentially English village, The Plough was set to be sold off the developers when 120 members of the community came together to invest, and save, their local. After its purchase and renovation, the Yates family took over the kitchen and opened the pub's small, but proud, restaurant, Bowleys.

Head Chef Alex Yates is still very early on in his career but though only in his early twenties, he has already spent two years in the kitchens at The Goring Hotel in London, as well as having gained experience with Rick Stein and even once cooking for the Queen.

Bowleys menus have a traditional feel and adhere to classic, English fare with a fine dining twist. There are several options to choose between including a tasting menu, set lunch, a la carte, brunch and Sunday lunch. The tasting menu is the jewel in Bowleys crown and consists of five courses, with an optional sixth.

A sophisticated, well presented dining space, which is popular for celebrations; we were celebrating my husbands birthday. We opted for the 8 course tasting menu. Stand out dishes were the cep risotto and venison haunch, both absolutely delicious; I love the fact that all the produce is locally sourced. We had a Cotes de Gascogne to accompany our meal which was light and refreshing. The service was also a highlight, with each dish explained and presented beautifully. The team were very knowledgeable about the dishes, origins of ingredients and what wine would pair well for the tasting menu and/or individual dishes. The cocktails are highly recommended, especially the margaritas!

Fabulous food in a great setting, I would highly recommend. This was a birthday treat for my husband and we really enjoyed the experience.

Superbly presented meal. Beautiful. The venison was particularly fantastic and beautifully cooked. Faultless. Staff were totally helpful in every way possible. Wine was perfect (Primitivo)!

Absolute gem of a restaurant...and will definitely be back!!!! Food outstanding and excellent service. We opted for the 12 course taster menu and were extremely pleased with the taste, presentation ...everything. For each course the waitress took time to explain what we were having and for a couple of courses the chef took time out of his busy kitchen to come and chat to us, which was a very nice touch, explaining the sourcing of ingredients and how they are growing and cultivating a lot of the vegetable themselves, probably explains how tasty and fresh they were!! Wish the team all the success they deserve and definitely worth a visit whilst you can book relatively easily.....before they get the star they deserve.... Brilliant time had by all

Absolutely delightful staff these days Grace especially was delightful , knowledgeable and helpful House Red was delicious-Argentinian Boys found the rack of lamb portions small - one was changed . Potato cube lump was ungainly. It was a filler as it’s leaning towards the nouvelle cuisine side of eating We did have a very pleasant experience though

Great night spent with friends in a perfect setting, being served amazing food, by professional, polite and friendly staff. Don’t save a visit to the plough for a special occasion, make it your go to place for great food at anytime.

Very good cooking served by charming young ladies. The Venison was perfect and the English cheeses had been very well affinaged. Dessert was a delight.

We had an outstanding anniversary dinner with both food and service exceeding expectations. The attention to detail, including the thoughtful card, amuse-bouche between courses made the experience even more special. The service was attentive and friendly throughout and we will definitely be returning.
