Decided on Boston Chops for our Anniversary dinner and we both agreed it was a good choice. Beginning with the delicious warm popovers and ending with the chocolate lava cake and vanilla ice cream, the food is what you would expect from a higher end restaurant. Our server, Nick, was terrific. I can't think of a reason not to recommend.

I recently had dinner at Boston Chops in the South End, and I have to say it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had, especially for the price. We started with tuna tartare, calamari, bone marrow, and oysters. The oysters were shockingly small—barely anything inside—and cost $56 for a dozen, which felt like a complete rip-off. The tuna tartare was a joke—there was hardly any tuna, and it felt more like a salad with filler. The calamari tasted like it was drowned in a sweet-and-sour sauce you’d find in an Americanized Chinese takeout, not what you'd expect at a steakhouse. For the main course, we ordered the tomahawk porterhouse, which the waiter recommended, saying it was over 30 ounces. Sure, but 15 ounces of that is just bone, and for $156, we were expecting something spectacular, especially since it was supposed to be Wagyu. Honestly, it tasted just like a regular NY T-bone steak with nothing special about it. We also ordered sides: the onion rings were greasy and bland, and the pork belly mac and cheese barely had any pork belly. It was more like regular mac and cheese with a misleading name. After spending over $600 for four people—including drinks and tips—I left feeling unsatisfied and ended up eating ramen at home because I was still hungry. The service didn’t help either. From the moment we walked in, I felt uncomfortable, like we weren’t welcome. It might have been because we were the only Asian group in the restaurant, and there were no other minorities around. The staff felt fake and insincere, and we certainly didn’t feel respected or valued. Overall, I’d give this experience a 1.5 out of 5. For the price and the hype, Boston Chops failed to deliver in every aspect—food, service, and atmosphere.

Sorry to say this place did not deliver. Dirty tables with no linens, server was inattentive, took 40 minutes to finally get a bottle of wine. Water stayed empty. All the little things about a great steak house were absent. Steak did not have a good sear, seemed like it was baked. I’d take a pass if I were you.
