My group of six had dinner at Boom Bang I yesterday and I consider it a pretty good option in the area. A DJ was playing music which was fun, but made difficult for conversation with three people on each side of our table. For two or four people, it wouldn’t be a problem. Service and ambience were fine but pretty average.
The food was good, with varying levels of execution. We ordered bread, deviled eggs, and corn dogs for appetizers. The bread: not great. The deviled eggs: Why the oily oily greens in the middle? I thought it would be a mini salad but wasn’t enjoyable. The 5 deviled eggs were perfect, though. And the corn dogs were recommended by the server: nothing special. A friend got the mushroom soup and really liked it.
For entrees, 2 ordered the Steak frites and loved it. They nailed both components! The Pumpkin Chicken is a perfectly roasted half chicken, moist and tender atop a pumpkin sauce with lovely Brussels sprouts. The 2 people who ordered it raved about it and took home leftovers. Two of us ordered the Bucatini Carbonara, which is the simple execution of a classic … but was under salted so tasted bland. A few peas and scattered lardons was the only thing to make it interesting. It was a miss without a garnish or toast crisp.
Of the four different desserts we ordered, the Mexican Hot Chocolate Crème Brûlée, got the highest marks. And the ones in tart shells (Macadamia Date Tart and Lemon Meringue) were difficult to eat because the crust was SO hard that one called his tart a “puck.” We nearly called for a steak knife to be able to get a bite.
This is an overly detailed review but when the diners feel like for some the whole experience was two stars and others thought it was four, I feel the need to clarify.
