We went for a birthday celebration. The food was great, the staff were great, and there was a note and a little treat waiting for us at our table. I love the Boathouse and their staff. It truly made the celebration that much better.

Food was delicious but was overpriced for the amount of food you get. The octopus appetizer was very small for $25.

We had a lovely dinner at Boathouse last Wednesday. We were seated at what is likely the best table in the house in terms of lakefront view and got there just before sunset. Our server, Dan, was wonderful. He made some great suggestions for menu items and even gave my husband a tip about pickling vegetables at home, which we’re excited to try. The food was excellent, as always. We had the carpaccio to start, the chateaubriand as our main, the house made ice cream and a decaf espresso at the end. The thing about Boathouse that truly sets it apart from most fine dining restaurants in northern Michigan is the overall experience. It isn’t just dinner that you’re there to enjoy. It’s the atmosphere, which is always so warm and inviting; the views, which are truly second to none; the care and attention of the service, which was above and beyond this time around (thanks, Dan!); and of course, the food—and I can say with honesty that I have yet to even *somewhat* dislike an item on the menu there. One other thing I’d like to mention: the little details. I have a friend who’s an award-winning chef at a high-end restaurant in San Antonio. I’ve posted many pictures from meals at Boathouse and he’s made some lovely comments about everything from the dinnerware (which he knew to be VERY nice) to the different flavor profiles on the menu. The black garlic on the carpaccio, for instance, which he was intrigued by. There are so many little details that come together in curating this spectacular experience. Thank you, Boathouse, for yet another beautiful evening, and we hope to see you again soon!

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at the Boathouse on a Sunday evening as the sun was setting. Salads were fantastic and my wife continues to rave about the chick pea cakes!

Honestly, this place ruined my wife's birthday. For starters, the service was running slow. For a Friday night, that's understandable to a degree. Me, my wife, her mother, and her partner were having a celebration. The waiter was informed of this when we ordered drinks. We ordered 3 mocktails and got 2 of the dinner for 2 surf and turf. Our reservation started at 6:45, we didn't receive our salads until 7:30. We finally got our entrée at 8:20. Once we got our entrée the entire plate was luke warm or cold. The asparagus were cold and limp, the lobster was barely warm, the steak was luke warm (warmest thing on the plate), and it was hard to cut through. Our waiter checked on us once, and barely. When he came by to ask how the food was, I didn't start eating it yet, so I couldn't even let him know about the issue. 20 minutes went by before I saw him again, and once I told him, he got extremely defensive. At no point did I blame him, the cooks or anyone else, just wanted to point out my food was cold and I could not eat it. He said he couldn't do anything and got his manager. The manager got defensive as well, saying there was no way my food was almost cold because she asked the cooks. We were offered drinks and free dessert, which we declined. The mocktails were taken off, but when I brought up that I barely ate any food, and if I could have part of my meal taken off the bill, I was told no because they think the food was hot. I don't know about anyone else, but I can tell when I have food that is not freshly cooked, and it truly tasted like it. I didn't enjoy the staff towards the end as they were rude about the issue and refused any real compensation. For context, the mocktails were $11 each, and the surf and turf for two was $159

Excellent service with Dan! Fresh shrimp cocktail for appetizers. The burrata salad had perfectly ripe heirloom tomatoes. Wonderful filet mignon & lobster tails for dinner. Looking forward to our next visit.
