I was seated instantly even though I was 20 min early. I started with the pow pow shrimp appetizer. It was incredible. I’m unfortunately under the restraints of a company budget so steak was in that for the night. I opted for the fried chicken and it didn’t disappoint. Cooked to perfection. My waitress was beautiful and attentive. It will be a must stop when I’m in town.

From being greeted by our friendly hostess, to our attentive waitress Kelly, to a fabulous meal (filet, chicken breast, chili and Brussels) and a delicious manhattan—we had a fabulous time as a family. A little pricey but satisfied our cravings. A little noisy but we enjoyed it and the games playing on the 3 TV’s at the bar across from our table. Wonderful time of celebration.

Sides were nice but the steak was the worst cut of steak I’ve probably ever had. Chef would have known that but still served it up to us. Disgrace. Not cheap either.

We have eaten here twice before and the food was great. Last night’s meal was a huge disappointment. Crab cakes were hot on the outside, stone cold on the inside. My dining partner and I both ordered the filet steak. While mine was very good, his was inedible- it was VERY mushy, a very odd texture for beef. We sent it back and the staff very nicely replaced it with a new steak. Unfortunately, this filet had the same texture issue and while it was charred on the outside it was cold on the inside. Staff was great and didn’t charge us for this item but we still left without having a full meal. All we could guess is that the two steaks had been frozen and then microwaved to thaw… I hope the restaurant fixes the issues it appears to be having

Steak was excellent. Asked for medium rare and it was. Haystack onions were sooo good. Got the peach berry crumble for desert. Would not recommend. Came in a skillet and was boiling hot so had to wait for it to cool off. The “crumble” tasted like raw dough. Very disappointing.

Usually love this place! Last night they were out of many seafood items, and the menu has gotten a bit sparse. What we ate, WAS tasty, however. The other thing was that it was my birthday. Two tables nearby got dessert, a candle, and one got singing (though perhaps it was their dining partners). Made the evening feel less special I suppose. We WILL be back, but will call first to be sure there is lobster etc…. Will definitely return for the amazing happy hour!

My new favorite restaurant in Novato service was great food was amazing and the cocktails are super yummy.

New limited ala cart menu is very limited. Waitress never asked if we needed a refill on beverages. Asked for a medium steak, came rare to med rare. The so called ribeye steak was 95% New York steak.Side mashed potatoes served luke warm at best. Best appetizers removed from dinner menu. Probably not going back

My son and I wanted to go to a steakhouse. I found Blacksteer in Novato. It had a decent rating, so we gave it a try. I reserved a table outside, which was by a swimming pool. Nice setting but we didn’t get much attention. We ordered the Steer Big House Salad $14.00, which sounded like a wedge salad. It wasn’t. The portion was very small served in a shallow bowl. Some of the iceberg lettuce was brown. Extremely underwhelming. Our NY cut steaks were cooked well. They could have used more seasoning. The steaks were served with a pile of mashed potatoes. Good, but not great. The sautéed garlic spinach was very good. Definitely not a fabulous meal - especially being swarmed by yellowjackets when the food came and having to go inside in search of our server. I doubt we’ll be going back.
