Le Blackfriars a été élu meilleur restaurant aux North East England Tourism Awards en 2013. Occupant un ancien couvent médiéval chargé d'histoire, fondé en 1239, le restaurant a servi de réfectoire pour les moines, ce qui en fait une des plus anciennes salles de restauration construite au Royaume-Uni. Ce restaurant de 72 places sert un menu de style britannique classique et copieux, à base de produits de saison provenant des fermes et des marchés locaux, accompagnés d'une grande carte des vins primés. Il comporte également une salle de réception pouvant accueillir 50 personnes et un atelier pour 12 personnes proposant une large gamme de plats. Le Blackfriars a récemment été élu « Meilleur dîner du dimanche à Newcastle » par les lecteurs des journaux The Observer et Metro. Il a également obtenu une récompense AA dans le classement des guides Which, Good Food Guide, Hardens et Michelin.

Our cookery school teacher will show you just how easy it is to make home-made soft corn and flour tortillas filled with succulent savoury fillings. Learn how to make both fish and meat tacos with all the toppings and have enough tacos to take home to show off to family, friends and work colleagues. You will also learn about mezcal and how it’s made being able to taste and savour three different types of tequila and mezcal. Come on your own, with family or friends.

It was my first sign up for Open Table since I retired. I thought it was expensive when I booked it. I really enjoyed it and would consider signing up again for other events. The leader of Open Table on 8th March was excellent, Thank you.

A lovely birthday meal. We had the set menu and wine flight. All very good. Thoroughly enjoyed it

Our lunch guests were delayed getting to the the restaurant and the staff could not have been nicer about it, reassuring us it was not a problem and ensuring our food arrived promptly when we were all in place. They were also very helpful in assisting a couple in our party who have mobility problems.

Lovely atmospheric space to dine. Definitely suited for an older audience. My husband and I had a lovely meal and dessert. The pan haggerty was beautiful and my husband found the fish buttery (wonderful). The triple cook chips were average at best. The apple crumble was tart and the tiramisu was slightly gelatinous for a vegan dish but overall a good experience. I would return again.
