Black Ginger is a Korean - American restaurant focused on new age Korean cuisine, collaborating with local Detroit produce to showcase rich and traditional flavors.

Executive Chef Jorge Morales has worked in NYC Philly and Ann Arbor. He brings his vast knowledge and experiences to our restaurant and has crafted a menu that offers bold and unique flavors with traditional Korean roots. Black Ginger's menu offers exciting creations for both newcomers and veterans of Korean cuisine.

Owner Harold Kim is a Korean American who grew up in the metro Detroit area. He is knowledgeable in many Asian flavors like Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisine. As a Japanese restaurant owner, he has worked with many different types of seafood and has also traveled extensively around South Korea to understand both traditional and modern flavors.

The food was fantastic, service was excellent and the servers explained everything when they brought it out, we will be going back!

would be willing to come again! good service. will try more entrees next time. feels a bit plain with the lack of decor. like it isn’t finished or something but i get if they are going for minimalistic vibe. just something felt off

My wife and I tried Black Ginger for our third anniversary. We love trying new restaurants and the menu seemed right up our alley. First off, we each got 2 cocktails, trying new drinks each time. Every drink was fantastic. We ordered 4 dishes to split between us and they were the perfect size for sharing. Each dish came out staggered so we got to fully enjoy each dish before moving on to the next. We had high expectations and I'll say each dish surpassed anything we expected. We sat in the bar area at one of the large round tables and the ambiance was amazing. Quiet enough for us to have intimate conversation but bustling enough to feel like we were part of something trendy. I highly suggest reserving one of the tables by the bar. Service was fantastic and super friendly. We couldn't wait to text family and friends to tell them about our experience. This may be our new go to for a nice evening out.

Go for happy hour! Great specials on both food and drink. Crispy rice and tempura broccolini were especially good. Perfect, fun service. Definitely returning. Free parking too.

First time visiting, had a good experience. Waitstaff was very friendly and helpful, explaining the food thoroughly. Ordered almost half the menu for a party of 4. Everything was delicious and well made- stand outs were the pickled cucumber/tomatoes, roasted carrots, Korean fried chicken and the Galbi Jjim short ribs. Cocktails were also very nice and fit the menu well Though explained as a sharing menu, dishes are slightly small for the price, but again- delicious. Great start for a newer spot, will definitely visit again and recommend to others

Every dish was amazing and our server Lena was fantastic. Definitely recommend trying this new Korean spot in Detroit! Lots of great vegetarian and vegan options.

Overall, very lovely experience. Food was very good, especially the dumplings, the fried chicken, the fried rice. Scallops were a bit overwhelmed by the pureed pea sauce, but were still good quality scallops. The atmosphere is simple, if a little Spartan. But the service was excellent. Cocktails were very good, too.
