The Bird in Hand is a friendly independently owned and operated pub in the village of Mayford. Whether you are looking for a casual drink, formal get together, delicious Sunday roast or a beer in our lovely garden area we have you covered.
We offer a great selection of beers, wine & cocktails that can be paired with our fresh seasonal menus served in our formal dining area, casual bar area or large sunny garden. We are proud to have a passionate and dedicated team who are here to help you enjoy your experience with us.
We are dog friendly in our bar and garden areas.
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children of any age may dine with us but must vacate the premises by 8pm.

Service good although always feels slightly rushed. My food was awful and can't believe something so tasteless snd awful on your menu. I had gnocchi. Vile.

We had the most wonderful meal here yesterday, the food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding. Very clear to see why this establishment has been voted the best in Surrey.

A while since we’ve eaten at The Bird in the Hand. We generally enjoyed what we had. Thank you to the kitchen for the 25th Wedding Anniversary dessert plate, that was a lovely touch. Areas for improvement: Drink service a little slow, prawn bon bons could have been warmer, some of the calves liver a little poor but lovely crispy bacon, no spoon for the mustard, 175ml of wine when asked for 250ml.

Lunch for 2 following recent reviews / awards. Had the two course menu, colcannon and ham plus sticky toffee pudding. Food was nice and well presented, but our mains were both served on cold plates, so not hot, a pet hate of mine. Beer was okay. Service good. Ambience is nice but the place is quite noisy for a conversation as restaurant was full for a Wednesday lunch. Would I go again? No reason not to, but we are lucky to have lots of choice around the location.

Had a really superb experience. The food was delicious and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Izzy and holly made our visit outstanding with their service. Will definitely be returning.

We had two young ladies look after our table of 10 on Sunday afternoon and they were both super attentive and very personable. Took an interest in us as a table and looked after us incredibly well.

I went for roast lamb and my sister went for roast chicken. She had a chicken supreme which is a good size however I had 2 slices of lamb and felt that was a bit stingy. Also the roast potatoes weren't crispy on outside and fluffy in the middle. Lastly the cauliflower cheese looked nice but when the sauce was off the cauliflower was brown looking. We booked for 4.30 and cut off was 5pm but did feel a bit disappointed. What also annoys me is that they added service charge on to bill. There was only two of us and I feel I should choose if I want to leave tip. On the plus side the staff were pleasant.

Meal for 8 for my daughter’s birthday was absolutely delicious! The Bird in the Hand had been recommended to me and I can honestly say it lived up to its high recommendation. I will be back!
