I recently visited Birch on a work trip and decided to sit at the chef’s counter. What a great experience, the food was superb and watching it being prepared was fascinating. Would definitely visit here again, well worth it.

This is absolutely one of the best dining experiences in Milwaukee. We have dined here several times and are always delighted. The food is creative, seasonally inspired, and bursting with delicious flavor. The service is attentive, thoughtful and prompt. And if you have the pleasure of dining at the counter, you can observe the workings of a very well-coordinated kitchen, which is so cool to watch!

We’ve had a number of great dinners at Birch from the chef’s tasting menu. Unfortunately, the chefs tasting was not available tonight and our meal was less than stellar. There was a special wine dinner going on and the staff’s focus was directed there at the expense of every day diners. I hope Birch will work to bring its a la carte menu up to parity with the tasting menu. And if it can’t balance special events and normal dining, it should decide which to do on a given night so no one gets a lesser experience.

One of the best prix fix meals we have ever had. The tostada and the ravioli are unforgettable. Go.

Hands down the best farm to table American experience in the Milwaukee area. The quality of their ingredients and ever changing menu can compete with any restaurant in San Diego. Why do I mention San Diego? It is the mecca for the freshest farm and boat to table, highly competitive, experimental, and quite possibly the best and most creative and cutting-edge dishes you can get in the country. Birch has a nightly tasting and wine pairing menu in addition to their ever changing full course menu. Their tasting menu changes every month. Ingredients can even change weekly or daily. You can sit right at the counter in front of the kitchen and watch the chefs work. This is my spot every time. Please try Birch at least once in your food journey. Chef and Owner Kyle presents dishes with precision and perfection. He runs the back of house with military-like precision. I've seen everyone from the GM to the bartender running dishes. All hands on deck, everyone is respected and is on board with the vision of Birch. The food here is Michelin level, no doubt. My only critique is that sometimes proteins come over/under temp or seasoning. In summary, Birch offers the freshest ingredients straight from the local farmers market. From there, they create constantly evolving dishes with the seasons. Birch has a daily tasting menu where you can experience some of these ingredients in smaller bites and in off-menu fashion. We had a great brunch experience last Spring and decided to try it for dinner. Besides being overpriced, the food was very salty and underwhelming. My Contramar-style fish was one-note, salty, and had no nuance. My husband’s brick chicken was disappointing - too much aioli, overcooked squash, salty chicken. The only item that stood out was the the crudité appetizer on a bed of seeds with a carrot mis dip - it was delicious then and now. The service was quite good, but not enough to bring us back. We could have eaten a James Beard award winning meal (from the Sanford) for the same bill.
