Binnekill Tavern is a historic tavern overlooking the scenic Binnekill Creek in Margaretville NY, in the heart of the Catskill Mountains. House made specialty cocktail. Owners Phil Farinacci, Peter Botros and Bryan Calvert have transformed the space into a modern nod to the mountain life. So, after a day on the slopes at Belleayre Mountain, or hiking the peaks of the Catskills, take a tour through lovely Main Street Margaretville and join us here at Binnekill Tavern.

Slow service. Almost 90 minutes for entrees to arrive. Fish Salmon & stuffed haddock overcooked. Uncomfortable seatin. Staff was trying hard to deal with situation such as bar staff walking out.

One waitress for the ENTIRE restaurant. Many people just walked out. We have been here a handful of times already. Each time there’s not nearly enough waitstaff to cover the restaurant. Sad that the service is really holding this place back. Great ambiance. Great food. I wouldn’t bring guests or friends here. Just a frustrating dinner experience.

Binnekill Tavern review: Poorly trained staff. I can't comment on the food. We never got that far. I made a reservation and when we arrived on time, the laconic hostess meandered over to us and without asking our name, asked only "How many?" The restaurant was not full by any means so perhaps checking off a reserved table’s party had arrived was not a priority. She picked up 3 menus and just turned and walked away. We followed. She put the menus on the table and as an afterthought, said that someone would be with us soon. Another person did bring glasses and water without comment. We waited. And waited. We were told that someone would be by to take our order "soon". We waited again. Not wanting to be the "ugly weekenders" we gave things ample time, but after almost 30 minutes of watching the staff clear and reset other tables and walk around between the kitchen and front of the house empty handed, we told the first person we could make eye contact with that we were leaving. She asked if our server had even come over to us, commenting that we were not at one of her tables. The rest of the staff either didn't notice or didn't care as we walked out. As the busy summer season rolls in, management should make a strong effort to be sure that they have trained staff, not just the right head-count.

The service was very slow when the restaurant was not that busy. We had to go up to the bar to get our drinks refilled it took so long.

Nice to have them in the village - we need a good reliable nicer place to eat - a good tavern....

Food was delicious. The smoked trout salad app was my favorite. Service was excellent. Very kind and helpful with wine selection and asked us throughout the meal if everything was ok. Lovely inside, the atmosphere was rustic but clean and relaxing and contemporary. Steak was cooked perfectly. We will definitely add this to our favorite spots. We can’t wait to dine here again. Thank you.

I so wanted it to be better than last time but it was not. It took almost an hour to be served a burger and a salad. The restaurant was not that busy; many open tables. The entree salad was the price of an entree salad but the size of a side salad. I hope they can get it together as it’s a nice spot to dine.

The service was very good but the food / schnitzel and vegies/ appeared to be re heated ,not freshly made. Pitty!

Easter Brunch was booked for 11:30 seating. We arrived at 11:35 and were seated in the bar area. I'm not sure since the dining room was empty. We were then informed that they were not ready. We were offered coffee while we waited. Food was not put out until 12 noon. It was also freezing inside so I assume they didn't time their guests arrival and opened the restaurant at 11:30. We didn't mind the wait for food but at the same time we rushed to get there on time. Perhaps change the start time next year. The food was good and clearly home made. The selections changed as they were replenished with new items. It was a pleasant Easter brunch and if we were in the area again I would go back.
