We chose the Festive afternoon tea in the Imperial Suite. We pre-booked and on arrival we were shown to our table. The service was impeccable. The staff were attentive and professional but not overpowering, nothing was too much trouble. The tea/coffee and food was of a standard that you would expect from an establishment of this standing. There should be a law somewhere that states it is unlawful to visit Harrogate and not call in at Betty's. That last sentence was a little biased as we both love visiting Harrogate and of course Betty's.

I took myself out for tea today because I was in town for an extended weekend. Ann, my server was amazing. The tea was delicious and the food was outstanding. I will be back.

Afternoon tea. My sandwiches good. My wife's (gf) only fair - much better gf bread is available locally (Baltersen's in Harrogate and Bondgate Bakery in Otley). I was happy that second helpings of sandwiches were offered. I needed them! Frankly, I thought that the sweet items offered were poor in quality and quantity, and certainly not what I expected of Betty's. The two scones were quite good but VERY small. The three cakes on the top plate were totally underwhelming. Sorry, Betty's, but you are going to have to improve substantially - but I'll probably not turn up anyway but you won't miss me because there are plenty of tourists for whom you are on their bucket list.

Betty's has a huge reputation and afternoon tea is very expensive - twice as expensive as recent teas we've enjoyed - so our expectations were high - possibly too high ? There was a huge choice of teas and we enjoyed our drinks very much. The tea was beautifully presented on spotless linen and was very attractively presented and our waiter was charming and attentive. I would have expected a choice of sandwich , but we were invited to order extra portions which was nice. I thought that the scones were small and I was very disappointed to find that the jam was apparently from a commercial source - our local cafe in Saddleworth offers delicious home made raspberry jam for instance. As for the cake selection, I would have much preferred traditional English sponges and fruitcake etc rather than the small iced 'confections' that appeared which were more like sweets than cake. If we had been given this tea elsewhere , we would have been pleased, but our high (perhaps too high) expectation of Bettys left us a little underwhelmed and £150 worse off! The ambience , piano playing and decor were excellent

Lovely afternoon tea, piano player gently stroking the keys while enjoying the view from the upstairs window. Quite a special experience.

We (four ladies) had afternoon Tea at Betty's on Sunday 3rd November at 2.30pm. The tea was served upstairs in the beautiful dining room. We were greeted on arrival at the top of the stairs and our coats taken. We were then shown to our table which had lots of room around it so we didn't feel at all crowded. Our waiter, James, came to our table and welcomed us and explained the menu to us. Two of us have food allergies or intolerances and he explained all the different options to us. We chose the tea we would like and also ordered a glass of pink champagne which was lovely. The tea is served in silver pots with extra hot water for topping up and a tea strainer for the leaves and is refilled regularly if requested. The tea arrived on silver cake stands, individual ones for those with the allergies and a shared for the two without. The mini savoury starters were served on a separate tea plate to start us of and were a choux éclair with cream cheese and smoked salmon (or red pepper for those unable to have fish) and an exquisite cheese and onion (or pepper tapenade for the non cheese eater) quiche in an amazing pastry case. So onto the stands - a milk roll with egg mayo with tarragon, a round of bread with coronation chicken and then, our favourite, rosemary bread with Yorkshire ham and mature cheddar cheese - we even had seconds of the last one as there were so amazing. Next were a plain and sour cherry scone each with strawberry jam and proper clotted cream, so light and just a couple of mouthfuls. Finally we had a delightful a chocolate encased mousse on a chocolate square, a fruit slice of sponge and blackcurrant and finally a spiced orange macaroon with milk chocolate leaf. The pianist in the dining room, who plays throughout in the background, started to play Happy Birthday and the waiter appeared with three of Betty's amazing fondant fancies, each with a candle for the three birthdays we were celebrating (plus a sneaky one for me who wasn't). Wonderful value.

Everything was great. I am not a tea drinker but really enjoyed the variety. The food was great and the service was excellent.

Certainly not worth the price. Had some gift vouchers which were out of date which was disappointing
