Consistently excellent. The wines are among the best in the City. There's always something interesting and delicious to drink with a very good meal.

I lived in Paris for a decade and this evening is one my best experiences of brasserie food outside of France. Our French waiter, Vincent, was knowledgeable, polite and charmed my mother. Food was classic French brasserie - straight forward and tasty. We sent back a tartar for having too much pepper and it came back exactly like I like it. And no attitude about sending it back. Our neighbors were a family of three generations of French ladies having a great time together. I finished the evening with a lovely Calvados from 1974. Our main problem now is whether to go back tonight or try something new. In terms of cost it was comparable to up market brasseries in US.

We love French food and tried Benoit for the first time for a 5p reservation on a Friday evening between Christmas and New Year's Eve. We were seated at a table that would have confined us when the restaurant was still quite empty and were kindly moved. Great! The sommelier was cranky, and admittedly tired, and explained that he had thousands of bottles of wine to count. Sure, but that is not really our concern, just be kind. He was not. As the room filled up, we got our bread basket far behind other customers getting theirs. I playfully asked that waiter, "Oh is that last one for us?" Our primary waiter was arrogant and quite cool with us. We ordered onion soup and escargot for a first course. The soup was delicious, the escargot overcooked with a little piece of toast on each. We ordered poulet roti --roasted chicken--for two. The chicken was fine, but far too much food for the two of us. When I commented on the amount of food he called my order a "rookie mistake." Rude and dismissive. I asked him politely why he didn't advise us to order less, and he said he had no idea how hungry we were. Rude, dismissive, rude. In short, in a city with hundreds of French restaurants, some on the same block, we won't go back to Benoit. We work hard for our money, and part of what is lovely about going out is being treated hospitably while enjoying wonderful food and ambiance. That did not happen at Benoit.

The food was absolutely amazing. The ambience couldn't have been nicer and decorated so beautifully at Christmas. This menu and all the food makes you feel as if you're dining in a true French brasserie. Absolutely perfect! The service, food and ambience are all amazing and I will go back here again and again. Top notch. I really can't say enough fantastic things about this restaurant. So glad I found out while we were in town! wow.
