Excellent food and service there as always. Recognised that it was our 1st wedding anniversary with a nice surprise treat.

The food and drinks were outstanding at Benares. But more than the food it was the staff that made the experience extraordinary. They went above and beyond to ensure the whole experience was great

Although the food is good, this should never be a 1 Michellin star restaurant. The noise level inside, makes you feel that you are at one of those noisy food markets. The service is low quality and the staff seem to be poorly trained. They did not clean the table between dishes, they don't explain the dishes you are about to eat. It would be ok, in a cheap restaurant, but not at a 1 Michelluin star restaurant. AVOID!

Been to Benares quite a few times and for a few years. Whenever I have a special occasion I tend to choose it - Birthdays etc. As always the food is really superb, the service great. You cannot fault it. What I have noticed though is the cost is really creeping up, there used to be little dishes to eat between courses, poppadoms at the start as part of the cost. This is no more. Main courses were usually £40+ , a small Cobra beer is now £9. Its still special, its still lovely food but with the costs going up I think it will now need to be VERY special occasions that I dine.

Cocktails and starters especially the Paneer Galouti, were really tasty and well presented, everything else quite was quite underwhelming. The desserts were good, nothing exceptional though, the main dishes were a big disappointment.

Having been to Benares few years back when the experience was fantastic, but on this occasion, the experience was rather poor. The food quality was very basic, choice was limited, and the loud noise of serving staff talking in their local language (Hindi) was not impressive at all. Benares used to have excellent quality food but it seemed they have lost that magic touch, food tasted like another average Indian restaurant type food.
