Chef/Owner George Kovach has over 15 years of experience working in the service industry, including eight years working in Michelin-starred restaurants, he and his team are excited to provide a neighborhood gathering place in the heart of West Ashley.     BearCat is not just a restaurant; it is an experience that deserves at least a Michelin star or two and a James Beard Award. Every dish has a surprise- every single dish! Amazing! As someone who has had the privilege of dining at some of the finest restaurants in the world, BearCat in Charleston, SC, stands out as a hidden gem that deserves the highest accolades. This unpretentious yet extraordinary restaurant, led by Chefs George (owner), Maddie, Tommy, Ian, Liz and their talented team, offers an experience that rivals those of Michelin-starred establishments in New York or Chicago. (Chef George’s fine dining and stars background from Chicago shows!) From the moment you step in, the ambiance is welcoming, and the service is impeccable. Each dish is a delightful surprise, a testament to the chefs' creativity and mastery of flavors. Here’s a breakdown of my unforgettable culinary journey at BearCat: First Course: - Duck liver mousse toast on Japanese bread with strawberries(?) - Low country oyster with nasturtium oil Second Course: - Peach and bacon panna cotta with charcoal snow Surprise Third Course: - Hamachi crudo with guava jam, basil seeds, and fried seaweed Fourth Course: - Cavatelli with corn and corn smut (a unique corn fungus) Surprise Birthday Course: - Scallop with charred veggies and a divine sauce. The scallop was PERFECT! Fifth Course: - Duck, medium rare, with sunchokes, allium and pickled cauliflower Sixth Surprise Course: - Sous vide lamb seared on all sides with Carolina caviar (red beans-ish) and a rich jus First Dessert Course: - Compressed melons, sorbet, and goat cheese espuma. Not sweetened cheese- what a great surprise! Second Dessert Course: - Kakigori shaved ice (blackberry) with ice cream and macadamia, reminiscent of Kala Khatta from Juhu Beach, just missing a dash of chaat masala. Made me miss my childhood! Last Dessert: Birthday Surprise - Dark chocolate brownie, simple and delicious For its price point, it’s a must visit!

    Living in Charleston, we're truly spoiled with an abundance of incredible fine dining options. Our goal of trying at least one new restaurant a week has led us to some amazing dining experiences. After a recommendation from a server at a well-known downtown restaurant, we had to give Bearcat a try. Let's be honest, West Ashley isn't typically known for fine dining, but Bearcat is changing that perception. Our experience was exceptional from start to finish. The homemade pasta appetizer and salad, featuring the best peach dressing I've ever tasted, set the stage for an unforgettable meal. Our main dishes, fresh catch scallops, and the lamb, were phenomenal. The desserts were extraordinary, prompting us to research the chef. Learning about their impressive background explained why we were so blown away. I don't usually write such glowing reviews, but our expectations were surpassed in every way. Bearcat has earned a spot in our rotation of favorite restaurants, and I encourage all Charleston foodies to discover this gem. ---

    The food was delicious and the service was great. The portions were on the small side. My wife and her friend were satisfied but I was still hungry when we left. That is my only criticism they should have something a little more substantial on the menu.

    We tried the Tasting Menu and had probably as close to a perfect meal as we have ever eaten. The flavors were bright and the ingredients fresh and put together in such creative ways.

    Very good vibe. Food is unique and I enjoyed sitting at the bar watching the chefs. However, our food was only OK. Oysters didn't taste like oysters...more like the cream cheese they were mixed with. Barely tasted crab in the appetizer.

    The culinary experience at Bearcat is exceptional. Flavor is in focus on each mindfully prepared plate. The environment is modern and cozy. Service was warm and personal at each step.

    We had to ask to have the music to be turned down, ambiance stark, waitress was nice and tried to answer questions about the food and wine. Over priced.
