BAYTE, is a modern European neighbourhood restaurant with an emphasis on local sourcing and quality produce in the seaside town of St Leonards-on-Sea. The seasonal menu blends influences from across the globe, with particular reference to Italian recipes, such as hand-rolled pastas.
The meat at BAYTE is free-range and reared on biodynamic, organic Haye Farm in Devon. Vegetables are also sourced from organic suppliers, most of them from English and Japanese vegetable growers Namayasai, and Goat Grid Farm, both in nearby Lewes.

    Top class venue on the King's Rd that is quickly developing a great reputation with a number of good food destinations. This is undoubtedly the cream of the crop. Great menu, good wine list (although had a night off on Saturday early evening's visit), friendly and great service and an all-round classy venue.

    Menu is over complicated and pricing structure not clear - simplify the pricing and menu I.e have a set menu and an a la carte - not both in one!

    I have eaten at BAYTE a significant number of times, this time it was a Japanese inspired set-menu. The food was delicious and the service was great; we were a table of four and everyone loved the variety and quality of the food. Unfortunately for us, we spent a bit too much enjoying ourselves, but that's our fault. We missed the first opportunity to try a Japanese set-menu at BAYTE, so were keen to make a booking. We loved the sharing two starters, the main and the lovely duo of deserts, in particular the finishing sorbet which had an enourmous flavour punch and ended the meal on a real high. Yum Yum

    We had a reservation on Saturday for 9pm. The food was excellent but the service was slow. We had a babysitter and taxi booked for 10:45 which I thought would be ample time but we ended up having to stuff down a dessert, as our mains didn’t arrive until about 10:20 (no starters), which wasn’t because the kitchen were slow but because the waiting staff took an age to take our order. The restaurant was very busy and there were several menu items that had run out which was a bit disappointing but the food was the saving grace. The long wait meant we spent a lot of money on booze which was probably a bit unnecessary.

    Great casual atmosphere, with excellent food. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime and it was the perfect place to celebrate my mothers birthday. We would definitely return.

    The batter on the monkfish starter was a little tough/ chewy All Other food was outstanding and delicious. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful…

    Delicious food. Unfortunately some delay with service meant our main meals were going cold before we had them. They may have been short-staffed or perhaps too many people ordered at the same time? I did mention this and was pleasantly surprised when they didn’t charge for dessert. Will definitely go back.

    Our group of 3 all loved it. We weren’t ravenously hungry, so were very happy with our small plates (all pasta based). They were all delicious. The simple green salad consisted of interesting leaves and a lovely dressing. The staff were super helpful and charming. And we had enough room left for puddings - they were all delicious and we sampled each others.

    Recommended to eat here by our Airbnb host. Did not disappoint! 1. Dog friendly 2. Great menu, limited choices but still very difficult to choose from! 3. Loved the local provenance of menu items 4. Staff friendly and efficient- even though we heard that they were short staffed due to Glastonbury festival 5. Would highly recommend
