BAYTE, is a modern European neighbourhood restaurant with an emphasis on local sourcing and quality produce in the seaside town of St Leonards-on-Sea. The seasonal menu blends influences from across the globe, with particular reference to Italian recipes, such as hand-rolled pastas.
The meat at BAYTE is free-range and reared on biodynamic, organic Haye Farm in Devon. Vegetables are also sourced from organic suppliers, most of them from English and Japanese vegetable growers Namayasai, and Goat Grid Farm, both in nearby Lewes.

Excellent cooking, friendly staff. Some bits a tad on the pricey side. Relaxed ambience in a nicely designed space.

We only had a short time to enjoy a meal at Bayte which had been recommended to us but we'll definitely be back for a longer more relaxed meal. When the staff realised we only had a short time, they advised us on what to order to maximise our enjoyment. The food was delicious.

We were so excited when BAYTE opened in our town but the honeymoon period is over. The place now lacks all charm. The waiting staff are disinterested, lacking knowledge on food and wine and made it quite clear that they were ready to go home by cleaning down the kitchen area - around two metres from our table - while we still eating. The music choice was weird and seemed to be more for the benefit of the staff than anybody who was eating there.For the amount of money we paid I’d expect to be made to feel more wanted, more special and to have more than some crude soup with pesto stirred through it for the only V option on the menu. The chairs are cheap and clumsily chosen - they’re not high enough to go with the tables so the whole experience of sitting and eating feels uncomfortable. Time for management, owners, staff and chefs to sit down and consider what they’re trying to do and for whole they’re doing it.

Beautiful space and the food was pretty good (think London prices). Let down by the service unfortunately. Staff were nice but drinks were very slow to arrive and we were barely checked on after we had ordered. A few small tweaks and it could be excellent.

I've eaten at Bayte three times now and the food has always been fantastic. For me the service doesn't match the food which is disappointing and could so easily be sorted with more attention to detail.

A sublime experience. Gorgeous space, a menu that makes your taste buds pop, plus cool and friendly service from a young and knowing team. Worth leaving London for.
