Here at Basset Down, we’re proud to offer excellent service in a location like no other. Based in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, we’re a family run destination for everyone to visit, for occasions large and small.

Our experienced head chef has now taken centre stage in our new restaurant, which is now open to the public throughout the week. It's modern design and informal atmosphere is complimented by seasonal menus with locally sourced produce. Perfect if you’re looking for an ideal spot for lunch with friends, a day out, celebrating a special occasion or swinging by for a quick drink. We also have a selection of homemade cakes, snacks and hot/cold drinks available throughout the day.

I was impressed with the new breakfast menu. The restaurant was quite busy which affected the speed of service slightly.

Always wonderful to sit, chill, chat & dine with good friends. Staff always very attentive. food delicious. Lovely & clean.

Slightly slow service despite the restaurant being quiet. My friend and I ordered poached eggs on toast which were slightly over cooked. Asked for another small cup of Americano after the breakfast took ages to come then arrived in a big mug.

The roast was lovely, however we did have some pink bits in our chicken. The waiting staff were very quick and very helpful.

We booked a table for 12.30 and ordered our food but were warned that main courses were a bit slow in coming out. So we ordered some olives to tide us over whilst waiting. 12.30 became 1.30 and still no main courses became 2.00 and then some main courses arrived which were to be fair as excellent as previously. No offer of any reduction or free puddings or even drinks whilst waiting. It would appear that unless you are prepared to cause a scene and we were not as visiting with family that we have not seen for some time you get taken for granted. We have visited several times and this was the first time we have experienced anything like this.

Food again was absolutely delicious, my partner is coeliac and this is one of a few places we can eat knowing they’re extremely careful when it comes to food preparation and the risk of contamination. We will be returning ☺️

We went for Sunday lunch. I had beef, my partner had the vegetarian option. everything was freshly cooked and tasted amazing. My beef was succulent and pink, with only a little fat. My partner commented that hers was the best she has ever had! We then had desert. My partner had the special of the day, which was plum and almond tart soaked in sherry, it was delicious. I had the apple strudel, it was very tasty, not too hot, and very tasty. We love going there, can't wait to go back!
