Recommended in the MICHELIN Guide for California 2021-2023. Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music.

Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Dining with friends? You can't go wrong with our family style Dinner Party Menu. We include an array of house selected apps, mains and desserts from our current seasonal menu. All dishes are meant to be shared among your whole group. Sample a little or a lot of whatever meets your fancy! It's a great way to dine and depending on the night, Chef Amol might stop by your table for a little visit! Food cost is $75/pp and does not include beverages. 20% gratuity and tax will be added to the check.

We were seated upstairs which was quiet. The waiter was right there to take our drink order, and French fries. They arrived quickly and so did the waiter wanting our dinner order. We asked for a few minutes to enjoy our cocktails. He was back in no time and we ordered entrees. Food arrived quickly. The 3 different salads ordered were all really good. Entree arrived quickly after. Schnitzel was a generous portion, gnocchi wasn’t -but was delicious. Ordered 2 desserts to share. The restaurant doesn’t offer espresso, but would suggest skipping the coffee which tasted old and bitter. While the waiter was efficient, we never saw him smile once during our dinner. And the finale was him telling us he needed the table…in other words, please leave! This is strange because they have a sofa/chairs seating area upstairs. They could have politely asked us to move there-and if they had, we would probably have ordered another drink. Part of the enjoyment of a restaurant is the hospitality of the servers. This was missing.

Wonderful food, service, and vibe. I’ve been 3 times already and look forward to dining at Bardo again.

We did the Dinner Party and each course was amazing in taste and presentation. It inclided more food than I expected, and with regret we had to pack some to go rather than eat all of it fresh.

The food was excellent, as always. We tried the Watermelon Gazpacho, the best gazpacho either one of us had ever had. I also loved the meatball appetizer with a very tasty sauce. We always order the Chicken Liver Mousse, one for each of us, it's that good. Service was friendly and efficient. High praise.

I had a reservation at 7:45 but our table wasn’t ready till about 8:15… this would be unfortunate however, they had an intimate little waiting area. We ordered drinks and they ended up comping them to make up for the wait, this was a very kind gesture. We didn’t mind waiting at all. Once our table was ready, we were sat at a great table in the dining area and enjoyed our food. The deviled eggs were delicious and the chicken liver came w a Serrano plum jam that added such a unique twist to the liver. The summer schnitzel was extraordinary and the array of sautéed veggies on top made it a pleasure to eat bite after bite. Great experience. Great food. Great light fixtures!
