Bar Primi is a pasta shop devoted to ‘primi piatti,’ the pasta course. What began as an idea for a small space in New York’s East Village has since become a downtown New York staple, housed on the Bowery for the last ten years. With this second location in Penn District, chef-partner Andrew Carmellini will carry on his same tried and true methods of making fresh pasta traditionally prepared and cooked to order, using a variety of non-GMO semolina and specialty ‘00’ flours, organic eggs and family recipes. Italian wines are offered by the glass and by the bottle. A playful list of signature cocktails, which includes the original Frosé, aperitivi, a robust beer list, amari and coffee by La Colombe are also features.

I thought food was good, drink service was very slow ( they comped them) and atmosphere outside was lovely on this night. Some of my clams were not open and they replaced the whole dish, which is nice and the right thing to do. Yummy affogato and cherry sorbet! Nice to have a better place so close to MSG.

Service was a bit slow to start, eventually got the drink orders in but put in the apps and main course at the same time. Apps came out before the drinks. But to their credit, they did make up for it through the rest of the dinner. Server was attentive. Other staff continuously refilled water glasses and the food was very good.

I was excited to dine here but disappointed. The restaurant feels like it could be anywhere USA, there is no NYC feeling. Very packaged and corporate feeling. It's attractive enough (maybe trying a bit too hard for my taste). Half of the bathrooms were out of order - unacceptable! The food was good the drinks were disappointing and the service was ordinary. I do like the other restaurants in this group but this one was really not to my taste. Also, no bread service or even available upon asking was not a good choice (and NO, garlic knots at a cost are not an acceptable substitute).

We walk by this place and loved the ambience. Made a reservation for dinner and it lived up to our expectations. Service and food were Outstanding. We could only get a standard reservation, but really wanted outside. When we arrived, they said they could seat us outside. The evening was perfect.

Robert, our server, was amazing. All the other staff was very good as well. Excellent food and the space is really on oasis in the Penn Station district. We will be regulars!

Bar Primi is a great place to meet your peers and friends. You can choose either the patio or the indoor seating since they are both very pleasant. This is also the right place if you like garlic (a lot of garlic) in your food. The menu is not very extensive but is good.

Food and table service was great. We arrived 45 min before our reservation to see if we could sit on the outside patio. There was a table open for our party which the restaurant said would be available on a first come first serve basis. The hostess said the table was taken and stated that someone called about setting the table aside - this is not first come first served. We left the restaurant 90 min after being seated and the same table was unoccupied. I was not going to confront the hostess with this point when we left as our party had a good time but I think it is disingenuous to say your outdoor seating is first come first served when it really is not.

Dinner at Bar Primi was great, the Smoky Luigi was a fantastic cocktail, and the strawberry fantasia was great.
