We had a high hopes for this restaurant. Because it is run by the same team as the Mermaid seafood restaurant. The food was just okay.. the service was excellent. The chicken fajita was oily and didn’t have much flavor. We won’t go back.

First time but not last. The food was excellent. Very tasty. We had the special appetizer and special entree. Excellent but a bit pricey. Also had tacos. Yum yum.

There was no AC. The room was way too hot. Also no frozen drinks with it being that hot in there.

The tacos are small bites but were good. I was warned in advance but not a big eater anyway. There was a group of 4 loud mouths in the corner and setup just makes things louder so hard to enjoy your food lol n that environment. Service was ok. Not overly attentive.

Perfect restaurant especially if you have ticket to a show….service was quick and efficient…food was delicious…the menu is small but nice variety and it’s more like a tapas …so I ordered tacos and they small but just order a few so you can get a taste of different ones …everything from apps and service was excellent

The food was excellent, and prices reasonable. The server did tell us the appetizers were small, but we did not expect to only get 2 pieces when we ordered the chicken quesadilla. They were full, which was nice, but we had to order another one and cut them all in half, as we were 5 people. The carne asada fajitas were delicious. Steak was tasty and perfectly cooked, as were the onions and peppers. They came with 4 small corn tortillas, but we ordered more. The chips are freshly made, and the guacamole and salsa were good. Drinks were good, too.

Delicious tacos. Mexican street corn. Loved! Good margaritas although pricey. Key like pie delish too.

Went at Happy Hour after walking from Penn Station knowing the whole time.. that my phone was still on the train. Even though they let me back on early to look, how can anyone tell one train car from another?! So after walking 15? blocks or so, not at all thinking about trains and phones NOT. I arrived. Very cool space. Think 🤔 upgraded “camp dining hall style” wood tables and walls, the atmosphere is similar to camp too Loud; but, happy, noise. Kitschy; in the best way. Like, paper menus and pencils at the table. Oh, and the tacos were simply perfection as was the margarita….which made me assured enough to trust in the universe and still go to the show. It was serendipitous. Yes, I got my phone back 4 hours later. 😊 TY to NJ Transit. I would definitely go back to Bar Mexicana

Honestly, I had reservations at another restaurant several blocks away from the theater, as we had been there before. Due to the inclement weather I changed it to Bar Mexicana yesterday. I was with my granddaughter and neither of us had been there before. It was very convenient as it was as it was right across the street from the theater. It was a very good choice. The food was promptly served, fresh and delicious. The hostess, manager and waitress were very professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend the restaurant or eat there again especially if we are going to a play at the Steven Sondheim Theater or in the near vicinity.

Chips and guac were good as were the tacos. Both of us disappointed with dessert. Service was not great. Server not very attentive or friendly. I ordered a cocktail I that I hated, took just two sips and server never inquired. Same with one of our sides. I did not want them taken off the bill but do think a server should ask why. Risk of trying new things. Then when dessert came my son burnt his had (has a blister) with no warning churro was that hot. To top it off server took my card and then dropped off my bill with no card and ran off. Had to flag her down to get my card she had left it in back and forgotten to return. Made me so uneasy. Paid a lot to leave dissatisfied and worried about a potential compromised credit card.
