It’s a “modern” tapas place that has limited “special”tapas and are too small and expensive. Perfect for drinks and a snack. Don’t recommend it for dinner.

The service was out to a rough start. Not sure what was going on after being there for ten minutes said something to Gab one of the managers and he apologized then made sure we had zero issues the rest of our stay. I will go back and recommend going to this restaurant. Food was good and drinks outstanding.

All of the food ordered was excellent. I especially loved the Patatas Bravos and pork dishes. The lobster roll was a nice, small shareable dish. The ham served up table side with tomato bread (Pan De Cristal Con Tomate) may have been my favorite along with the pork entree (pictured). The only dish that didn’t wow me was Neptune’s Pillows. I think it was a textural thing. All of the others we had were yummy and pretty to look at. Dessert was a deconstructed key lime pie that had the perfect tartness. Solid cocktail with a Salt Air Margarita, plus a refreshing glass of Cava. Great night of food and drink. Very close to Metra and can be in and out fast if you’re in a hurry. Will be back and looking forward to also trying Bazaar Meat.

Food feels very heavy and comes in light portions. Potato leek soup was very good. Lobstee croquettes small portions and creamy deep fried, nothing too special. Truffle Sandwich felt like a very heavy grilled cheese (probably would not order again). Service and ambiance are top notch.

The food is always very tasty with robust flavors, atmosphere is great (aside from how far the bathroom is and how bad it smells downstairs) but the service every time I have been has been horrible. We barely saw the waiter and when we did we could barely hear or understand him just by how softly he spoke. He didn’t know the menu well to share any insight either. The service and presentation could be much better for a Jose Andres restaurant.

Having eaten in numerous Jose Andres restaurants in several cities, Bar Mar was a disappointment in ways Mr. Andres would likely be concerned. This restaurant is run like a random chain instead of a gem like Zaytinya. On time check in for our reservation stated off rocky when we were offered only outside despite tables being available inside. That was settled but not without wondering why we were not given a better seating option. The waitress came over to my young adult son and me and one of the first things she says was we had a 2 hour time limit on the table. Why was this a greeting? We were ready to order and clearly there for dinner and not just a drink and take up space.The next line was a hard sell on drinks. No we did not want a drink. We ordered plenty of food despite no drinks and even added to the order - then it was what do you want for dessert. Sensing my displeasure and the anticipation of a tip she feebly said something about it being busier than usual but honestly the food was good and the timing of the food was totally fine. Her attitude and the formulaic hard sell which was unnecessary was the problem. We left feeling unappreciated and unwelcomed. Chicago has a lot of great restaurants where the food is great AND you are treated with respect so I don’t expect the management to be long for this city.

Food was good once we finally received, but we waited 20 min to have a server approach and another 30 min until. we received any food. Apparently there had been an emergency with our intended server, which we understood, but then the table next to us (same section/situation) got all of their food (multiple small plates) 10-15 minutes before we received ANY of our plates.
