Food feels very heavy and comes in light portions. Potato leek soup was very good. Lobstee croquettes small portions and creamy deep fried, nothing too special. Truffle Sandwich felt like a very heavy grilled cheese (probably would not order again). Service and ambiance are top notch.

The food is always very tasty with robust flavors, atmosphere is great (aside from how far the bathroom is and how bad it smells downstairs) but the service every time I have been has been horrible. We barely saw the waiter and when we did we could barely hear or understand him just by how softly he spoke. He didn’t know the menu well to share any insight either. The service and presentation could be much better for a Jose Andres restaurant.

Having eaten in numerous Jose Andres restaurants in several cities, Bar Mar was a disappointment in ways Mr. Andres would likely be concerned. This restaurant is run like a random chain instead of a gem like Zaytinya. On time check in for our reservation stated off rocky when we were offered only outside despite tables being available inside. That was settled but not without wondering why we were not given a better seating option. The waitress came over to my young adult son and me and one of the first things she says was we had a 2 hour time limit on the table. Why was this a greeting? We were ready to order and clearly there for dinner and not just a drink and take up space.The next line was a hard sell on drinks. No we did not want a drink. We ordered plenty of food despite no drinks and even added to the order - then it was what do you want for dessert. Sensing my displeasure and the anticipation of a tip she feebly said something about it being busier than usual but honestly the food was good and the timing of the food was totally fine. Her attitude and the formulaic hard sell which was unnecessary was the problem. We left feeling unappreciated and unwelcomed. Chicago has a lot of great restaurants where the food is great AND you are treated with respect so I don’t expect the management to be long for this city.

Loved the interpretation of favorites …fresh take on a lobster roll and the pillows of tuna are exquisite!

Food was good once we finally received, but we waited 20 min to have a server approach and another 30 min until. we received any food. Apparently there had been an emergency with our intended server, which we understood, but then the table next to us (same section/situation) got all of their food (multiple small plates) 10-15 minutes before we received ANY of our plates.

Bar Mar has terrific food coupled with great ambiance and service. They also have a terrific cocktail list, the salt air margarita is unique and was a favorite for our entire party.

We chose this restaurant after seeing the area and the reviews but was not what we expected it to be. The sommelier opened the wine out of sight and try it before us. She brought the wine bottle already opened and without the cork. We have never wee something like that before. We spoke with manager and complained about it. They said they always do that to make sure the excellence of the wine. After that incident no one came to serve the wine again in the entire night neither the sommelier or the manager or the waitress (NO ONE) unacceptable service. The food was not so good. Never come back to this place again.

I had the (small) lobster roll with the soup of the day, potato leek. Both delicious. Friends had Cobb salad and ceviche. They were also happy. Service was quick. Our server was awesome, and we had a comfortable table adjacent to the outdoor dining area.

Went for lunch and two of us had bikini sandwiches which were excellent. I had the Cobb salad and that was tasty and very filling. We had the key lime pie for dessert which is the best we've ever had. Very light and the key lime flavor was delightful. Great service. The waiter was efficient and friendly. We'll be back.
