Bar Japonais combines a stylish interior with a dynamic culinary and beverage program. Features include vibrant, Japanese-inspired dishes, sushi and a French wine and cocktail menu, embodying the spirit of both cultures. As with acclaimed sister concept Bar Chinois, which highlights Chinese and French influences, our inspiration is to once again blend two exciting, rich and timeless traditions to create a special and distinct offering. Bar Japonais' restaurant core values will revolve around energetic hospitality and intuitive service, ensuring a remarkable guest experience. Join us for Happy Hour specials throughout the entire restaurant and patio, available Tuesday through Sunday from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Located in Logan Circle, Bar Japonais is a short walk from the Washington Convention Center, Capital One Arena, National Mall and The White House.

Come party with us at Bar Japonais for a very special “In my Villain Era” themed Drag Brunch hosted by Cake Pop! Dress as your favorite villain and join us for the best Sunday party on 14th Street. Tickets are $35. Enjoy optional bottomless drinks for an additional $40 including mimosas, select beers and hard seltzers until 3:00pm. Food and additional beverages are available a la carte. All reservations can be seated as early as 12pm and the show begins at 1pm. Tickets are non-refundable and adults age 21+ only. Don't forget to bring cash for tipping entertainers!

Went on a Tuesday night and had an absolutely charming experience. The cocktail list is extensive, the food was absolutely delicious, and the service was very attentive even as we were sitting outside. We will absolutely go back and highly recommend it.

The food was good and our server was very funny. We ate outside. The place was packed with folks from happy hour. Annoying, half drunk and loud.

First time at Bar Japonais but it won’t be our last. Loved the cocktails and the food which was really good and fresh but not great. Our service was outstanding, thank you Nash, and the bill was very fair considering how much we ate and drank. For us the place is a bit too loud but all the patrons in their 20’s did not seem to mind. Will most definitely go back!!

Went here because their sister restaurant Bar Chinois is great. This does not live up to the same reputation. The drinks were good and the happy hour menu had great selections and prices. But the fries looked like frozen fries from the grocery store, the food was just okay, and the service was a little lackluster. The bartender who started us off was great, but our waiter that took over was not the best. Our bill came back with extra items and non-happy hour pricing on some items and had to be adjusted.

One of us had the excellent bavette steak; very tender with a delicious teriyaki sauce. The other two asked our very knowledgeable server to bring us her favorite things, and we were more than pleased. We got sashimi, which was the best ever, a raw tuna, avocado and rice nori cone, and a large vegetable pancake which was wonderfully flavorful. Also the chili garlic edamame was great. We had the chocolate mousse and creme brulee for dessert. Plus the cocktails and the wine selection were excellent. Excited to return. It was a very good meal.

The Salmon sashimi was phenomenal. Super fun flavor palate if you love sushi but wouldn’t mind a twist.

This was our first time to the new restaurant on the block. We were pleased that the food and service were so good. It had a boisterous crowd on a Satuday night owing to restaurant week and happy hour, however, the hostess moved us to a quieter table. Our waiters, Haley and Jason (I think) were very attentive and gave good service . Having lived in Japan, we were surprised at the quality of the Japanese style food. We will definitely return in the future.

The service was great, but that’s about the only nice thing I can say about Bar Japonais. The food is nothing special but is way overpriced, and it was so loud even at 5:30pm that we couldn’t hear the person next to us.

Food was good, nothing was amazing. The tuna sashimi was a highlight however the hamburger entree was very overcooked. Service felt disjointed and it was very hard to hear what servers were bringing to the table because of how loud it is in the restaurant.
