Bar Japonais combines an energetic setting with a distinctive culinary and beverage program. Features include vibrant, Japanese-inspired dishes, sushi and a French wine and cocktail menu, embodying the spirit of both cultures. As with acclaimed sister concept Bar Chinois, which highlights Chinese and French influences, our inspiration is to once again blend two exciting, rich and timeless traditions to create a dynamic offering. Bar Japonais' restaurant core values will revolve around energetic hospitality and intuitive service, ensuring a remarkable guest experience. Join us for Happy Hour specials throughout the entire restaurant and patio, available Tuesday through Saturday from 4 PM to 7 PM and Sunday from 4 PM to close.

Located in Logan Circle, Bar Japonais is a short walk from the Washington Convention Center, Capital One Arena, National Mall and The White House.

Come party with us at Bar Japonais for a very special holiday themed Drag Brunch hosted by Cake Pop! Dress in your most festive attire (ugly sweaters encouraged!) and join us for the best Sunday party on 14th Street. Tickets are $35. Enjoy optional bottomless drinks for an additional $40 including mimosas, select beers and hard seltzers until 3:00pm. Food and additional beverages are available a la carte. All reservations can be seated as early as 12pm and the show begins at 1pm. Tickets are non-refundable and adults age 21+ only. Don't forget to bring cash for tipping entertainers!

Food was over all. The worse was the sushi rice which was too soggy and sour. We told the busboy who cleared our plates and who may or may not have told the manager or kitchen. No one came to speak about it. We would have told ourbwaiter but the quality of the wait service dropped off after getting out last courses. We sat with empty table for quite some time before asking another staff to bring us our check. We won't be coming back.

We had two people in our group celebrating birthdays. There was no acknowledgments by the waitress who took over. when asked at the end of our meal she said “let me see what I can do” and never came back to let us know. Sushi was good; meat dish was fatty; ambience was good. Service was OK.

Food was good and service was friendly and efficient. But it is so so loud you cannot hear someone sitting right next to you. They need to take some noise reduction measures to make it more enjoyable. Too Loud!

First time dining at Bar Japonais, but it won’t be our last. With the exception of the fries and the tuna sashimi, everything else was exceptionally well prepared and tasty. The chicken and salmon skewers were outstanding. And Sunday is happy hour all day which makes dining at this restaurant an excellent deal.

Overall a great edition to the neighborhood. It is very loud - extremely loud. So if you are looking for a place you can hold conversation across the table, this isn’t it. The bar takes up a lot of the space and seems to be the priority of the restaurant. The tables near the bar are a bit tough as the bar takes over and people are literately touching you at your table. At one point I had to ask someone to move away as they were literally touching our table. The food was good! I am excited to see the new edition to the neighborhood, and I hope they can control the bar crowd a bit so people can enjoy food there too.

Great vibe and food / reasonable - it’s really 75% bar and 25% restaurant! If looking for a quiet dinner - it’s not the place - but we will be back!
