An homage to owner Kris Lelcaj’s father, “babo” (slang for “dad” in Albanian) is a gourmet, all-day diner in Midtown Detroit. We will feature a menu comprised of creative, artisanal takes on comfort food classics that will be served up in a bright, lively ambiance.
We pride ourselves on carrying products of the highest quality and social responsibility from local, small batch producers. Babo food is always fresh and delicious and service is always great! The dirty chai latte is a favorite, it’s my go to restaurant during the day.

Invited two friends for lunch; both within the medical profession and used to good dining. They loved the atmosphere and array of health food choices.

Being able to make a reservation is excellent. The food and atmosphere are always ideal; also the wait staff is quick and efficient. You are always greeted professionally at the door. I was initially introduced to this establishment and am now recommending and brining others to dine.

Every time i am in the Detroit area i always go here for breakfast!! It is a must have. The French toast is to die for.

Arrived at reservation time and seated within 2 minutes. Once everyone was ready, we ordered and the food took quite a while to come out. We enjoyed lavender mimosas in the meantime. Prior to our food coming out a group was sat next to us with a small dog (I’m assuming a service dog). Not at anytime were we asked regarding our comfortability sitting next to a dog while eating. We were not ok with this but did not say anything because we did not want to spoil our time with friends from out of town. Food came out and was delicious. While eating we noticed the dog was now out of the crate and in his owners arms drinking water from the table and being rubbed on. Not cool. Once again, no staff said anything regarding this. After eating we sat around and right when we were getting up the hostess (resembles Harley Quinn with 2 pink ponytails) asked us to leave because she has other people waiting for a table. Mind you, there were 2 empty tables. We thought her approach was very rude. We informed her we were leaving out anyway. If there is a table time limit, then it should be stated when making reservations and if that’s the case then the kitchen needs to ensure food service is not delayed as well. We will not be back especially if it’s ok for dogs to sit up at tables next to other patrons who may not be fond of dogs or may have an allergy. Our waitress was really nice though. The male hostess was really nice as well.
