Escape the chaos of city life and enter a social haven of comfort and warmth in the heart of Paddington, London. With rich, dark green walls, elaborate décor and plush banquette seating, Ayllu is a Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant serving contemporary sharing plates, sushi and innovative cocktails.

The cosy restaurant is built around the traditions of the Ayllu community of the Inca Empire. The Ayllu was a group of families that lived together, worked the land together and shared their belongings and mealtimes, just like a large family. Much like the Incan civilisation, Ayllu is about the coming together of friends and families and taking time to share an experience of great food and innovative cocktails with loved ones.

Drawing on the inspiration of the Ayllu community, the menu consists of innovative small plates, designed for the whole table to share. Traditional Peruvian flavours are paired with Japanese influences, bringing fresh and zesty aromas to each dish.

To note - I emailed twice in advance requesting an allergen menu and didn’t receive. But on site one was able to be provided. The food was decent with some stand out dishes. And the drinks were really good. The prices are reasonable but some dishes are tiny.

First - the food was good, but not exceptional. But it was the only highlight of the evening. We arrive and the sound level was through the roof even though the venue (which is small) was only half full. Our table for 8 was not ready, and they had to re-arrange a six person table for us, even though we confirmed twice that a party of 8 was coming. They didn't have our order in, and as we are trying to communicate with the waiters (by screaming because of the loud music) and it was impossible. We asked multiple times id the sound could be lower, but was told it was impossible and we therefore ask of we can eat a different place (upstairs), because the sound was too high for us. The waiter said she would be happy if we went somewhere else (with snark) and would arrange a different table for us. Instead the manager comes over and tells us he will get the DJ to turn down the music, and he wants us to stay. The manager then suggests a wine that doesn’t work with the food, we get sparkeling water served when we ask for still, and there is a constant battle to keep the sound down as the DJ keeps increasing it. The servers never presented the food, we had to ask for serving utensils multiple times, and never came to ask if we wanted more to drink. Honestly - what a waste of money on that DJ. I bet if they asked, no one came for the DJ, but came for food but instead they have a DJ that makes people want to leave. Same with the samba dancers.. neither a japanese or peruvian concept, and I bet no one really enjoyed it. We laughed, but it was because in the setting it was just crazy. Would never recommend anyone to go here, unless you are comfortable eating in 110 decibel (we measured) music that also was poor. Stay true to your concept, and focus on the food and service. Wish I hadn’t accepted to pay the service charge on the bill - never has it been less deserved.

Ayllu was a good place for dinner. The food was very tasty as well which we loved. However, we ordered a rib eye steak which on the menu said it was £45 but on the bill, it turned out to be £50 which wasn’t ideal. The portion was also small for that price. Also, the waiters brought my partner chopsticks & only brought me a knife and fork. Lastly, the restroom was not in a great condition; there were paper towels all over the floor. Overall, we loved our meal and the ambience however, these issues were annoying.

We had such a fantastic evening, the staff were so attentive and the food was delicious. They went above and beyond to make sure my sister's birthday treat was celebrated, and delivered fabulous dishes. HIGHLY recommend the Peruvian BBQ, the steak was absolutely glorious and they cooked it to perfection. The only slightly weird thing was the DJ, I don't think it matched the vibe and was very loud.

Good value for money overall and the dancers were fun. Music could have been more energetic for a Saturday night. Food felt very rushed, normally you would expect food to come in stages but every dish came at once. Also plates were not changed in between cold/hot food. Food was good, no complaints but not excellent. Overall good but just lacking the finer details to be up there with the high end restaurants.

Great atmosphere and ambience, staff are friendly and fast, but the food was not good. Trio taco was blunt. Padron peppers had paprika instead of salt? I mean who does this? And black cod had some sort of super sweet jam on which made it unedible . It needs a lot of effort to mess up black cod dish

Food was completely above expectations. Black cod was amazing. The staff member that looked after us was very kind and recommended drinks and dishes. Will definitely go back. Very good value for money compared to similar concepts in London
