Escape the chaos of city life and enter a social haven of comfort and warmth in the heart of Paddington, London. With rich, dark green walls, elaborate décor and plush banquette seating, Ayllu is a Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant serving contemporary sharing plates, sushi and innovative cocktails.

The cosy restaurant is built around the traditions of the Ayllu community of the Inca Empire. The Ayllu was a group of families that lived together, worked the land together and shared their belongings and mealtimes, just like a large family. Much like the Incan civilisation, Ayllu is about the coming together of friends and families and taking time to share an experience of great food and innovative cocktails with loved ones.

Drawing on the inspiration of the Ayllu community, the menu consists of innovative small plates, designed for the whole table to share. Traditional Peruvian flavours are paired with Japanese influences, bringing fresh and zesty aromas to each dish.

Had such a brilliant night here. The food was incredible and we had a great time with Mick the DJ. He totally made our evening as our table was next to his booth. We will definitely be back!!!

Happy to try a new place in our hood and the space is cozy…we were sat right beside another couple upon arrival when there were many empty tables (which my partner didn’t appreciate), but it became apparent quickly that the other tables were spoken for and I booked late (plus didn’t request special seating), so that’s on us. The food was mostly very good (a whole avocado mixed with Asian fusion ingredients at our table becoming fresh guacamole), and the black cod melts in your mouth. Surprisingly the spicy tuna roll didn’t meet the quality of the cod; however, the spicy edamame was very tasty and my partner thoroughly enjoyed most of the sticky toffee pudding which was a surprise to see on this menu. The team was very attentive….we didn’t feel rushed or interrupted and the noise level / ambiance was very suitable to couples and families alike….there was a vast age range enjoying a lovely evening. Note to newbies: you need to enter Smith’s Bar & Grill to access Ayllu via stairs or an elevator as it is directly below.

We wanted to have sushi and we just looked for a place on Google. We came to this "door" and I was about to leave, because I'm not a fan of basements. To our surprise, once we opened the door we could see that the place was quite cozy, immaculate and well ventilated. The sushi was simply one of the best I ever had and the service was also great. There is nothing I would change from this place, apart from bring it it to ground level :-) The prices are reasonable, and so is the quality of what you get. I can't wait to visit London again to go back to this restaurant.

The place is in Paddington area, down a flight of stairs. You feel like you are in some secret sushi kitchen nobody knows about. I had two rolls for lunch and they were both melt in your mouth. It's a beautiful decorated restaurants, great service and great food.

I did a reservation for myself - i wanted a wonderful Japanese experience on my London travel. I wasn't disappointed. I came here in Ayllu in Paddington and I ordered the nigiri and a selection of sushi. The sushi melted in my mouth. I can't say what was my favorite - the Akami tuna was divine – beef tataki was wonderful. The tiradito was amazing - honestly edverything was so good. Will be back very soon.

I ordered the sushi platter with a few extra pieces, a bottle of a really tasty wine and a glass of another really tasty beer. The food was all very well executed and more pure and traditional as I prefer. The restaurant is cozy with a fresh vibe, close to Paddington Station. My server was very friendly and very hospitable, as were all the other staff. I would totally go back here and I had a really pleasant experience.

Came here on a Tuesday night with my family. Not your typical stuffy, snooty high end japanese restaurant. The food was out of this world. The quality, taste, and texture of the sushi was 2nd to none. The service was prompt, friendly. We all ordered the tiraditos and sushi platters. Each piece of sushi given, kept getting better and better. Thanks to Morella for making our experience such a memorable one.

Ayllu compares extremely well with top Tokyo sushi houses, from the decor, its intimate atmosphere and, most importantly to the quality of the seafood. The chefs turn out great nigiri and sashimi, partly because the quality of the fish is so high. Additionally, the accompaniments, like the uramaki and bao buns were wonderful. A good beer list added to the evening. Very easy to find just on the Cana l side in Paddington, absolutely worth it!
