Although our waitress was very kind and informative, it was not a great experience food wise. She had cautioned my husband against getting the sirloin because "is not very good", but when his filet mignon came out, it wasn't very good either! He asked for it to be done medium, and it was very rare. He asked for green beans and got burned asparagus. Their popovers used to be amazing! But they were overdone, dry, and barely warm. All in all, not the greatest dining experience. Don't think we'll be back, which is a shame. We used to go all the time back in the day. We wanted to try them again for my birthday, and it's safe to say, we probably won't be back.

We had a great dinner, but the popovers were SOOOO over done that they crumbled into dust. They were inedible. Not the way I remember them.

We had a great experience at Axel's - Roseville and really enjoyed ourselves. We sat inside and our server did not steer us wrong at all. The four of us tried something different on the menu each and loved it. Don’t recommend the bar, staff and little grumpy!! But rest of the experience was outstanding!!! Thanks so much to the team.

I have always loved the Axel's in Mendota and was excited to try the Roseville location. We did not have a good experience. My water glass had a green floaty, the popovers were moldy, there was something wrong with the iced tea - tasted like sour milk. Our waiter was very clear that he was not happy working the outside patio, and it took forever to place our order, get our food, and pay the bill. When we showed him the moldy popovers, he did not say a thing. He was outright surly to us and the other customers. When I went inside to track him down and pay the bill, another customer followed me in the from the patio to ask him why he was not serving them after they had been there for over 40 minutes. What a disaster!

This is a nice quieter place to dine. The waiter was very attentive. We enjoyed our salad and popover.

Seems like a restaurant on the decline... made a reservation for a Saturday evening and it absolutely wasn't necessary. There were maybe 10 people when my companion and I arrived. We both ordered the prime rib and I regret doing so. It didn't seem like it was cooked fresh and it was barely warm. Overall just rather inedible. The sides portion sizes for the sides were also underwhelming and the popovers weren't warm. Lastly the service, while polite, was too much... too many visits to the table, too much conversation (to the point where it felt they were lingering just to chat), and also not helpful. For example, not noticing empty beverages when stopping by to check on things. Would not recommend.

Axel’s in Mendota Heights has been a favorite for years, with impeccable service, food and atmosphere. That in mind, I took my mom to Axel’s in Roseville for Mother’s Day. Brunch for 2, 1 Martini, 1 Moscow Mule, a 20% service charge, tax, tip, etc came to about $160. I’m all about splurging & treating ourselves on special occasions & Mother’s Day especially! Unfortunately, this was just not good. First, they proceeded to parade us, me and my 78yo mother, through the restaurant & server station to a back room, 2 large rooms away from the buffet. My mother has significant respiratory issues & is using a walker. She is having a hard time keeping up with the hostess and is out of breath long before we reach our table. I asked the hostess for something closer to the buffet, we were brought back through the server station & seated in a nice booth, in the restaurant, though still pretty far from the buffet which is set up in the hotel ballroom. We decide to make the best of things. There was a beautiful fruit and cheese platter, nice looking salads, but everything lacked flavor, the smoked salmon - flavorless. The lamb roast - undercooked, prime rib - overcooked. Pork roast was good. Bread & rolls were low quality & cold. We had to ask for butter, salt & pepper. Brunch went until 3p, our reservation was at 130p, yet there were already a number of items advertised that were no longer available. Once it was time for dessert, my mom just couldn’t make it back up to the buffet, so I picked out a number of options & brought them back, to share. Not a single one tasted housemade, it was mostly frozen thaw & eat items, dessert glasses with a few crumbs topped with canned pie filling and a squirt of non-dairy whipped topping & etc. Mediocre store-bakery type cookies. Just an extremely disappointing experience for $80/person.

Went to the Mothers’ Day brunch. Enjoyed some food items, especially the smoked salmon, roast meats, desserts. Server was excellent, as were other staff. Breads were dry and flavorless. But we had a pleasant family time. Thanks for that.
