Asador Bastian is a Chicago chophouse with Basque influences from acclaimed Chef
Doug Psaltis. Located in the iconic “Flair House” originally built in 1883, this historic

townhouse has been revived and brought back to life with culinary inspiration from the
great asadors of San Sebastián, Spain to serve the world’s best boutique beef without
compromise. The most remarkable dining experience comes from the purest ingredients
delivered in the supremely thoughtful, welcoming and hospitable manner. This ethos
has directed every aspect of the experience at Asador Bastian, whether you’re joining
us for small bites and libations in our Bar Room or for a more intimate experience in our
Dining Room.

    At Asador Bastian we are excited to offer our Chef's Table; a one of a kind experience. Our Chef's Table is located directly across from our kitchen where you will have a full view of our world class chefs at work creating the dishes that make our restaurant so unique. The Chef's Table is an experience created for 6 or 10 guests. A deposit of $150 per person is required for booking this private dining room. The deposit is applied to the final bill.     Sadly contrary to my past review, it comes to much dismay that I can no longer recommend Asador Bastian after previously having dined there over 4 times. It's such a damn shame too because it used to be good. Now? It's filled with corporate business-suit wearing "let's have a dinner meeting" kinds of people and those that love yapping out loud with their mistresses. It used to be intimate...busy...but not overly loud. It used to have excellent service and impeccable steak. Not anymore! I suspect it's because it's gotten a lot more press since I've been there (Tribune, Forbes, etc.) and now it's a glorified tourist trap. It was a Tuesday at 6:30PM but it felt like a hellish Saturday and I could barely hear myself THINK or my girlfriend. LOUD LOUD LOUD. I sat next to a dude who dropped his knife near my foot (almost got stabbed), dropped his napkin a grand total of 8 times, and finally ended with smashing his wine glass 20 minutes later because he was WASTED. He was yapping about how much he was still in love with his ex-wife (way to go bro ..excellent date!). Staff did nothing about this god damn belligerent pompous maniac as he sat with his escort or who I imagine is his date for the night as he loudly proclaimed how much money he made. I get wanting to fill the tables...but they need to start enforcing some kind of noise policy. The loud cafeteria style deafening chattering now contradicts the style of the place and the service which I can only describe as FRANTIC...it used to be CALM and ELEGANT. The food? The steaks are still cooked well...BUT the fat was not properly rendered on my Holstein. It was tough...chewy...and flat out inedible. All in all...sadly this will be my 5th and final visit to Asador Bastian. They couldn't pay me to come back in the slightest. It went from classy and elegant to one of those finance bro spots but even WORSE.....and that's saying a lot for Chicago! You'd be better off flushing $300+ down the toilet.

    Not a typical ho-hum Chicago steakhouse. High quality menu, excellent service, etc. The Akuashi steak was way better than anything I’ve had at a steakhouse. Tallow fried potatoes were a surprise. Would order again for sure.

    Still the best streaking the city. The steaks are remarkable. Couldn’t stop eating the Carabineros (red spanish large shrimp). I ordered 3 just for myself Hope to return very soon

    I think this is the best steakhouse in Chicago, but it is so much more. Great fish and seafood choices also. Service always on point.

    We had a wonderful evening and anniversary dinner here. We were attended to by the waiter, sommelier and bartender to tell us about the special cocktails. There were almost too many food choices as they have quite a few off the menu options. Our food was absolutely delicious. We had the beef tartar, blue fin tuna, Akaushi steak/filet and the arroz cremoso along with the artichokes. It was all wonderful and prepared perfectly. They also worked around my dairy allergy very nicely. We will definitely be going back.

    This is truly a special place! A little hard to find but worth any effort involved! Beautiful classy decor. The service was phenomenal! The food was better than that!!! Cocktails were divine! I had a French 75 made with cognac! We had a local tomato, olive and cheese appetizer. So fresh and good! My dinner companion had a delicious steak ! There are 4 different types of beef you can choose from. But the best thing was my Dover Sole Amandine! Perfection!!
