Asador Bastian is a Chicago chophouse with Basque influences from acclaimed Chef
Doug Psaltis. Located in the iconic “Flair House” originally built in 1883, this historic

townhouse has been revived and brought back to life with culinary inspiration from the
great asadors of San Sebastián, Spain to serve the world’s best boutique beef without
compromise. The most remarkable dining experience comes from the purest ingredients
delivered in the supremely thoughtful, welcoming and hospitable manner. This ethos
has directed every aspect of the experience at Asador Bastian, whether you’re joining
us for small bites and libations in our Bar Room or for a more intimate experience in our

    At Asador Bastian we are excited to offer our Chef's Table; a one of a kind experience. Our Chef's Table is located directly across from our kitchen where you will have a full view of our world class chefs at work creating the dishes that make our restaurant so unique. The Chef's Table is an experience created for 6 or 10 guests. A deposit of $150 per person is required for booking this private dining room. The deposit is applied to the final bill.     the premise is to explain to you the food by showing the raw ingredients. It didn’t work for me, it felt overdone and not helping the experience which for me should have been taste basque inspired dishes and get close to the Spanish cuisine experience. It did not take me there. And… very expensive

    We had a 9PM reservation, but upon checking in, we were informed that guests were still finishing their experience. This wasn't an issue, so we decided to grab a drink at the bar. However, we ended up waiting an hour and a half for our table. To the manager's credit, they brought us a few appetizers, but after another hour and a half, we were seated in the bar, even though we had been promised a table in the main dining area. When we spoke to the manager, they showed little concern for our experience and seemed indifferent to the long wait. Despite paying $600 for the meal, it felt like the manager believed offering appetizers was sufficient compensation for the delay, with no real regard for whether we stayed or left. I would recommend not wasting your time or money here, as there are much better steakhouses in the city that provide a more attentive dining experience.

    10000/10 everything was perfection! It was my birthday and it did not disappoint. The service was sooo phenomenal. Even tho this is fine dining every member was friendly and fun! We had the best steak of our lives here:perfectly seasoned and cooked! Thank you so much for your impeccable food and even better hospitality!

    Good but very expensive. $180 for a steak that was overcooked to the specifications we gave. The server just said “sorry” and that was that.

    Everything was perfect.They have an incredible variety of domestic and European fresh steak and seafood. It was amazing. I look forward to our next visit.

    Every bites take me back to the warm summer day somewhere between San Sebastián and Santiago de Compostela. The seafood selection was spot on without being pretentious, the service was professional but warm, the sommelier was inspiring without being snooty, and the beef was a reminder of rustic Galician flavor. Can’t believe I’m having this meal in Chicago. Goxoa….

    Sadly contrary to my past review, it comes to much dismay that I can no longer recommend Asador Bastian after previously having dined there over 4 times. It's such a damn shame too because it used to be good. Now? It's filled with corporate business-suit wearing "let's have a dinner meeting" kinds of people and those that love yapping out loud with their mistresses. It used to be intimate...busy...but not overly loud. It used to have excellent service and impeccable steak. Not anymore! I suspect it's because it's gotten a lot more press since I've been there (Tribune, Forbes, etc.) and now it's a glorified tourist trap. It was a Tuesday at 6:30PM but it felt like a hellish Saturday and I could barely hear myself THINK or my girlfriend. LOUD LOUD LOUD. I sat next to a dude who dropped his knife near my foot (almost got stabbed), dropped his napkin a grand total of 8 times, and finally ended with smashing his wine glass 20 minutes later because he was WASTED. He was yapping about how much he was still in love with his ex-wife (way to go bro ..excellent date!). Staff did nothing about this god damn belligerent pompous maniac as he sat with his escort or who I imagine is his date for the night as he loudly proclaimed how much money he made. I get wanting to fill the tables...but they need to start enforcing some kind of noise policy. The loud cafeteria style deafening chattering now contradicts the style of the place and the service which I can only describe as FRANTIC...it used to be CALM and ELEGANT. The food? The steaks are still cooked well...BUT the fat was not properly rendered on my Holstein. It was tough...chewy...and flat out inedible. All in all...sadly this will be my 5th and final visit to Asador Bastian. They couldn't pay me to come back in the slightest. It went from classy and elegant to one of those finance bro spots but even WORSE.....and that's saying a lot for Chicago! You'd be better off flushing $300+ down the toilet.
