"Amberley Castle has a long held reputation for delivering outstanding cuisine.

Enjoyed on the first floor of the castle in either the magnificent Queen's Room, with its barrel-vaulted ceiling dating back to the 12th century and open fire or The Great Room, built-in 1165 by Bishop Luffa of Chichester, a fine example of Norman architecture with its high lancet windows, open fireplace, oak flooring, tapestry and suits of armour.

The dress code for the dining room is smart casual.

Please note that we welcome children of all ages to dine in the restaurant as long as their parents are well-behaved!

Our first visit. The sun was out and we had our cream tea on the lawn. So peaceful with excellent views of the surrounding countryside. The food was well laid out and served by excellent staff. They did everything they could to help. A lovely way to spend our anniversary.

A perfect afternoon tea experience to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. The setting and the food were superb. A special thanks to the staff that looked after us, especially Jenny who was exceptional.

Lovely buildings and grounds at Amberley Castle. Had afternoon tea in the garden. Friendly attentative staff. Tasty food very well presented.

Our most recent visit to Amberley Castle was to celebrate our mother's 90th birthday, a huge milestone for her and for us at a Relais & Chateaux restaurant and hotel. Clearly, we had chosen the wrong time of the year to visit, although we had hoped that a summer reservation would allow us to have afternoon cream teas outside and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. However, we were told that it would be impossible to do so because it wasn’t warm enough, (it was warm outside) so we were sent upstairs. My own theory is that because there were so many construction workers traversing across the patio whilst performing renovations, the staff was reluctant to allow us to sit outside, something that very much upset our mother. Amberley Castle is not inexpensive for four people to have afternoon cream teas and one would expect scones to be fresh, baked that day, but we all felt that the scones were left over from the previous day, certainly not freshly baked. We also felt that the service was not what we have normally experienced at other Relais & Chateaux establishments, and there seemed to be a certain lack of care. Finally, had we been informed prior to our visit that renovations were being done and that the patio was off limits, it is unlikely that we would have chosen Amberley Castle for what we hoped would turn out to be a great celebration for a very special occasion.

Terrific food—as good or better than anything we had in France during our 7 days there prior to staying at Amberley.

As soon as we arrived there was an ambience to the venue. We were shown to our table of seven in the garden. Our waitress gave us a menu and explained the procedure for our high tea. The food, service and whole afternoon was wonderful. Thank you Amberley Castle for a memorable afternoon.

We had a fabulous Sunday Afternoon Tea in the gorgeous gardens of Amberley Castle Hotel. Service was impeccable, and the standard of the food was faultless,. Fresh from the oven savoury pastries and scones, and delicious cakes. The gluten and dairy free options were excellent, and we were told exactly what was in every part of the meal. There was iced tea as well as delicious range of speciality teas. We got there early to enjoy the gardens and stayed for hours soaking up the beautiful surroundings, and staff were both attentive and very respectful. We will definitely be back to celebrate other special occasions.
