Alma is a restaurant based on the tastes and experiences of our kitchen team focusing on modern Chinese cuisine headed by Chef/Owner Anna Chen.
We are built around food that uses fresh, simple, quality ingredients and our focus is to create a unique dining experience.
Our beverage program is focused on Natural Wines curated by Sommeliers Kate Densmore and Ben Dalton.
As of September 2022, Alma has been recognized by the Michelin Guide as a recipient of the Bib Gourmand award.

Alma signifie « gentil » ou « nourrissant » en latin, ce qui correspond bien à l'ambiance chaleureuse et à la cuisine sincère de la chef Anna Chen. Des plats comme les calamars au curry, qui s'inspirent de l'héritage chinois des Hakkas et de l'éducation indienne de Chen, ont le pouvoir inventif nécessaire pour que le restaurant soit distingué par le guide MICHELIN, tout en étant suffisamment accessible pour qu'Alma devienne le favori local.

Return customer. We love the food. Every menu item we ordered was special, and prepared with excellence. Chef came out to deliver some of the dishes which was a nice touch. Great restaurant!!!!

Honestly, I've been to many different restaurants, expensive, cheap, whatever it may be and I can say that nothing was special here that I had. I had the tapioca fritters which were good, but it's the same thing as a Brazilian cheese ball and the cheese balls are actually better in texture, lighter as they aren't fried, and wayyyy cheaper. The bao was great but I think a stretchy cheese would've complemented it better. Rather than the cheese they used and olive oil, I'd rather a slightly oilier cheese with that stretchy texture. The radish cake was meh, I don't think the Sweet rhubarb jelly really worked against the garlicy flavour of the cake. Had a cockle pasta that was a special for the day and all we tasted was the sauce which was chili oil and fermented black bean, all the stuff in the sauce had similar textures and did not stand out. I will say the basil was a nice contrast in the pasta so they should've used more but sliced it thin and distrubuted it more evenly. The curry cod wasn't salted properly but over spiced with curry, it was pretty lack luster. Overall for the price, not worth it one bit. I'm sure we didn't order the best things but considering a bib gourmand and we ordered 5 things, you think something would've been great. It was pretty uninspired. I regret not ordering the pork wonton and noodles because I had a feeling that would've been worth it, but it is what it is.

My friend and I went there for a bday dinner and I wasn’t disappointed. The food is yummy and the portions can be a bit small we ordered 7 plates I think and we are stuffed! Servers are very attentive and they really pace the serving of each meal which I love! I definitely will return for a special occasion ❤️

Incredible food, the wine selection is amazing, service was *chef’s kiss* — 1000% will eat there again.

Excellent, inventive dishes. I wasn't quite sure what to expect for "modern Chinese" but I loved everything we ordered. Simply, yet rich and flavourful.

The food is overpriced, and the portions are very small. We went there to celebrate my husband`s birthday and we were in and out within an hour. They also served the wrong beer for my husband, not what he ordered. Not sure why this place is so popular

Food portions were way too small for what they charge. While the tapioca fritters and nasi goreng fried rice were good, it didn’t justify the price. We were most disappointed by the char siu steak as its flavour was very one dimensional and the texture of the meat itself wasn’t quite succulent like how you’d expect a char siu to be. The black cod was good but not out of your mind good. It would have only been enough for one person even though they categorized it as a $44 “large” plate. Ambience was nice and welcoming with service that was pleasant. Overall, nothing wow-ed us and it’s not a restaurant we would recommend friends to go to.

A neighbourhood gem. We've been here three times over the past few years and each time the menu is an elegant expression of seasonal ingredients, with a great selection of natural wine offered at very reasonable prices. We treated another couple to dinner and got the prix fixe which included every dish on the menu we'd had our eyes on anyways. Zero disappointments. Top notch service. Not always in the mood for a 'peaceful' dining experience but if quiet conversation is what you're in the mood for, you really cannot do better than Alma.

The food was tasty, but nothing wowed me. Several dishes were a bit dry and needed some side sauce or something to add texture. However, the flavors were well-balanced. Service was pretty good. Overall, a decent place to grab some dinner, but I likely wouldn’t travel far to eat here at the moment.
