Best food in local area, well priced for quality. Good location by the square…but the decor is extremely dated and tired. Whilst this doesn’t bother me as the food is so good it may others.

We were in town for just one night, so we decided to have the tasting menu. The ingredients were all fresh and delicious, while the ideas behind the different dishes were so creative. Highlights were the scallop niçoise salad, the lamb with pistachio and the amazing heritage tomato dish, though there wasn't a single thing we didn't enjoy. The wine pairings were good and displayed the attention to detail of some being wines I didn't think were especially my thing when tried alone, but in combination with the selected dish complemented them perfectly. Staff were friendly and attentive without being fussy and the space was nice. The whisky aged in Sauterne barrels was a great digestif.

Excellent food and service. Liked the different menu experience and food full of flavour, very well presented. Nice to be able to share the various dishes we had. Can see what so highly rated. Relaxed calm environment to enjoy delicious food.

Well worth the struggle up the stairs. The ‘Tapas’ style plates were a generous portion and 3 plates with 1 side was enough for us (one with small appetite). Everything had its own unique flavour from ceviche, through BBQ pigs cheeks to lamb rump and the combination of flavours was a taste sensation. Even the mocktail left my tongue tingling. The ice creams were home made and delicious. The Tiramiso was also unusual but delicious. One of the pricier venues in town but worth every penny.

Very nice. Came early in the evening so nice and quiet, knowledgeable staff, food came out in perfect timings.

The one thing you need to know if your knees are not so good is that Allium is on the first floor and its toilets are on the second floor, that apart it is a great location, overlooking the market square, and is simply and pleasantly decorated, no overwhelming ambience, just nice surroundings so you can concentrate on the food. My companion and I both decided on the merlot, which is their cheapest red and there was nothing about it that would recall the famous line from Sideways (if you have seen the movie you'll know what I mean). I had the brisket, pig cheeks and fish of the day. The the fish arrived last, the peril of small plate dining? But otherwise no problem at all with the service, the young woman who waited on us was friendly and efficient. The only thing I'd advise her is not to refer to guests as "we", otherwise she was exemplary. The brisket was delicious, it was also very peppery, but in a nice way. (Unlike the soups during recent visit to hospital which were also peppery, but...just peppery. This was unctuous and the pepper balanced the flavours and the textures. The pig cheeks were wonderful, you spoon a bit of pork onto a lettuce leaf, a bit of pineapple and the other stuff, described as kimchee, very nice, but unlike anything a Korean would recognise...warning here, wear your napkin around your neck, you will need it! Although I had the fish last, and it would have been better first, it was very good fresh hake and a great combination of flavours, including a crab bisque spooned over it. I really needed some bread to mop up juices, I surreptitiously used a finger on all the plates. Not quite so happy about the coffee, we asked for flat whites, not having consulted the menu properly, and flat whites don't appear there. We got quite reasonable lattes, but I really wanted something stronger. I had mine with a lovely pineapple rum. Allium is not cheap, but worth every penny, a little short of perfection but close enough for me.

Superb presentation of the various dishes. Our taste buds were working overtime. A nibble, 2-3 savoury dishes & the dessert selection each was more than enough to satisfy 3 hungry customers accompanied by a bottle of excellent white wine. Highly recommended.

Good selection, tapas style menu and format, ( not tapas as you may know it ). Unusual pairings of ingredients, small individual portions so as to encourage you to experiment, you can order as you go, so as to eat just enough, around 3 choices + a desert appears to be enough. The cost is very much subjective, our bill was circa £70 per head including circa £24.00 each for wine. We would certainly recommend for a special occasion and will visit again if we are in town.
