    Locally sourced food, including game, smoked fish or meat. Nice range of choices for all three courses Well presented and un-fussily served. One of the best places we've tried in the Berwick to Coldstream area.

    We booked to eat at Allanton for the last evening of our break. We wanted some good food with a local feel. The menu did not disappoint at all! Sea trout excellent as well as hot smoked salmon. A fabulous meal with excellent service, we all enjoyed our food immensely!

    Very friendly welcome. Had a drink in the bar area whilst we perused the menu and ordered our food and wine. We were then shown to our table as our food was just about to be serves. Our wine was waiting for us at the table. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. I had the pork and apple burger which came with black pudding, a field mushroom and brie. My wife had the spicy lamb with sweet potatoes and cous cous. The lamb was tender as anything.

    We have dined and stayed here several times in the past and the food is always amazing. This visit was to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the food again was outstanding. Our only hesitation in giving 5 stars is our greeting by Katrina on arrival; she seemed rather stressed (despite us being early for our reservation). We asked to look at a menu while having a leisurely drink and were asked shortly after if we were ready to order, this despite being 20minutes before our booking time. It all felt a bit too brisk and hurried however once at the table the service and attention was excellent by the staff. Our only other niggle was I advised it was our anniversary when I made the booking but it was never mentioned during our visit so seems a bit pointless having that option on the online booking form if it is ignored. Overall though we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and can highly recommend The Allanton Inn

    Starter great, mains good but only three small roast potatoes between my wife’s small roast at £12 and my full size at £20 otherwise lovely.
