Akahoshi Ramen is a humble ramen shop in the city of Chicago. Everything is made in the restaurant, including all soups, seasonings, toppings, and noodles.

We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect.

Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. Our ramen is influenced by Japanese and American ideals in cooking.

We hope you will join us to enjoy a bowl of ramen, made with the respect and passion it deserves.

The food was ok. Not bad but definitely not super good either. Let alone authenticity.... Not sure why it's ranked top 1 ramen in Chicago in almost every food chart. It's some mediocre noodles for a very high price, maybe for the fancy looks of the restaurant. The so called soba is not even soba. It's more like a stirred tsukemen. The automatic 20% service fee is also one of kind weird policy, given the minimal service. After all, it's definitely not worth the price, let alone the enforced 20% service fee. And it's certainly not worth the wait to make reservation a month ahead.

Fantastic! The noodles were amazing, the balance, and the broth was perfect. The staff was kind and accommodated my childrens’ requests. Our reservation was at five and they seated us immediately. It is clear that every dish is thoughtfully prepared. It definitely lived up to our expectations!

Finally we had a chance to try ramen there and it’s worth the hype. Very cozy restaurant.

Love it always. I can almost never resist the miso but always have fomo for the other choices. I appreciate the minimal but thoughtful sake selection. If I lived in the neighborhood I’d wait to get in probably once a week!

Phenomenal ramen-easily the best in Chicago. The noodles are out of this world. The chashu melts in your mouth. Every element is perfect.

This is one of my top two ramen shops in Chicago. I appreciate the attention to subtle flavors that adds to a balanced bowl. I tried the monthly special this time and it was incredible.

Akahoshi never disappoints - except that it's too hard to decide between my first love, their miso bowl, or branching out to try whatever magic the monthly special is. The good news is that they never make a bad bowl of ramen so no matter what I decide it's always phenomenal.
