I live downtown and wanted to try this AKA that replaced Lavo recently. I love Asian fusion, my favorite is in Laguna Beach is called Starfish. First of all, love what they did to the place it looks beer very nice. The lighting decor and bar are killer. The drinks were great my GF had two and I had the Hitanchino beer which is rare to find. We tried two appetizers the Bao Buns (3) and Chicken Satay (3). Pretty bland overall. The meat was fatty on the bao buns and the peanut sauce on the chicken had hardly any on it, but the chicken was tender. We were going to order more items like the Sea bass and a Sushi roll. My GF was full, so I ordered the Kung Pao sushi roll. It was also very bland and a little fishy nothing special not a whole lot of flavor. We also were going to try the desert but decided to skip it. All in all, the dinner was not cheap. There is a 5-dollar service fee which is a little strange, with the tip, we spent 167.00. The quality of the food does not match the price. I say go to the bar have some great drinks and take in the ambience looks like there is a DJ station there and may be cool to lounge before going out.

AKA in Gaslamp is a total vibe! Went to the opening and had a blast, so I had to come back for dinner, and they’re nailing it for a new spot! The sushi and ahi were fantastic—super fresh and flavorful. They’ve got a smaller cocktail list, but every drink I tried was on point. Highly recommend checking out this new gem in Gaslamp for a fun night out with amazing food!

Wow! We had a great dinner at AKA. We loved the vibe and the decorations. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delicious. We had the pomelo salad to start, then short rib and glazed eggplant for the main. Great flavors and good portions! We’ve already booked again to bring our daughter and son-in-law with us.

Not sure if it was because it was their 2nd day of opening, I’m hoping over time they get things a bit more organized.Cocktail drinks lacked presentation, our server checked in on us once, our appetizers and food came to us out of order.

We were there on Saturday night and there were very few food options available. Apparently they ran out of most of their menu items on opening night. Great ambiance, the little food we did order was great. The bar has a great vibe, will definitely try again hope to try more of their dishes.

Came for date night. 8pm reso, no table when we arrived. Bartender was cool, gave us a round of drinks. Sat bout 20mins later, our server was gorgeous but clueless. Manager/owner was very nice and checked on us frequently. Runners tried to give us the wrong food two times, our appetizer came after we had eaten our entrees. Won’t be back

Never got my food after waiting 1.5hrs. Waitress disappeared. Asked two different waitresses to check on food, no one ever gave me an update. Asked a food server to check on food and mentioned had been over an hour. He told his manager who quickly told him to tend to another table. Manager never bothered to come over and ask what was wrong. I felt like a nuisance rather than a customer that was valued.
